Good But Was Great a few Years Back

Duke Villa overall is an OK place to live but is used to be alot better before it lowered its standards of residents it allows to move in. Also, the surrounding neighborhood has gone downhill even though its less than two miles from the Durhan Police Dept.
This complex used to hire people to clear the snow during large accumulations but the last 1-2 foot record snowfall they actually did nothing and waited for the snow to melt.
They didn't even clear the steps and walkways. Someone came out three days after the snow and threw some salt pellets on top of the matted down snow in the walkways.
It took me days just to be able to get to the road outside the complex.
The neighborhood external to the complex use and vandalize the laundromat area. The door has a lock on it but people keep breaking the door so you have to constantly go to the mgmt to get a new key for a new lock. I gave up and started using the laundromat at Lakewood plaza.
For some reason mgmt started allowing Mexican immigrants to flood the apt complex. These people drink alot, leave beer bottles everywhere, and make alot of noise into the early hours of the morning.
They also tend to pack in 4-8 people in a single 1 bedroom apt. I had to call the police at various times of the night because of the noise. This is also why I moved out.
If you decide to move in avoid the buildings near the pool area. I lived next to the pool and had to contend with all the neighborhood people packing the pool and making noise and hanging around the complex all day and night.
Safety is also a concern here. A few years ago they surrounded the complex with a 8ft chain link fence. This leaves two entrances during the day and they lock up the main entrance at night. So you're forced to walk across the complex if you need to leave at night by foot. I also had concern as to how fire trucks could get to an apartment if a fire occurs at night since the fire plugs are all outside the gate.
Management was generally helpful and responsive to complaints. If you need to save money Duke Villa is a good choice. Just be aware of its flaws.
