i lived here for a year from 2004-2005 and got a 1 bdr for $350 as a move-in special, which was fine at first b/c i work at Duke and it's a 10 minutes walk. when my lease was up they SAID my rent would only go up $100 but when they brought me a new lease to sign it had gone up $200 and they claimed they never said anything about $100, so i moved out. the apartment complex itself is ok, and i didn't have any problems with my unit which was a good size, but the neighborhood is GHETTO SCARY! you do NOT want to hang out on your stoop or in the stairway or parking lot when the sun goes down. the complex has a barbed wire fence around it for a good reason. every holiday and at least twice a month there was gunfire on the weekends in the surrounding neighborhood and occasionally in the complex. on new year's or july 4th you shouldn't even go outside at all b/c of all the idiots shooting off guns and bullets raining down. several people's cars were damanged as a result. the neighbors in the complex and in the complexes next door party or scream in the street all night, you have loud music from units and cars, people honk their horns at 6am for carpools, and police sirens at all hours, i.e. hope you're a deep sleeper. also if you call the cops, they don't show up for at least 45 minutes to an hour...THAT is a true indicator of how ghetto this neighborhood is!

if you are a single woman, don't live here, you won't sleep well, trust me. if you're really brave or just too cheap this place is fine...use the money you save and invest in a bulletproof vest or some kung fu lessons for protection.
