I completely agree with the statement "everything that glitters is not gold." This apartment was a great apartment when I first moved in 2 years ago. The living areas are nice, they have great amenities, and it's a great location for anyone working in the medical park area. Unfortunately, over the past year or so the management has changed so many times--there has been more staff turnover than tenant turnover!!!

This part of Durham is not an ideal place to live at all. This apartment was like a diamond in the rough, so to speak. The biggest thing that attracted me here were the amenities. Unfortunately there are affordable housing communities in the area within walking distance that do not have these amenities. So the kids make themselves right at home at Independence Park! There has been a HIGH traffic volume of people who CLEARLY don't live in this community, especially in the spring and summer. (This traffic easily makes the neighborhood look and feel like the "projects.") The management does little to nothing about it, partially because it's difficult and partially because I find it hard to believe they even care (hell, it's not their community, and the rent is being paid anyway.) Sometimes I wonder if this is a private neighborhood or an extension of the YMCA...

This neighborhood is not completely ruined yet, but it is headed that way VERY FAST. Unless something changes, my bets are that this apartment will turn into affordable housing (aka section 8) within 3 - 5 years. I just can't see decent, hardworking people like myself continuing to pay such high rent for a community that feels like the "projects" at times. And more people like myself will move out and go some place else that WILL maintain a professional and respectable community. In the meantime, I will NOT be resigning another lease with Independence Park.

I so agree. When My Husband and I first moved to Independence Park it was a dream come true (A nice community) it has changed in the very few month we have lived here. People are always hanging around outside late night, trash is always in the parking lot and breezeway and the new staff SUCKS!!!!! If something does not change fast this place will some become DurhamĀ?s newest project.
