Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2003
I was the first and only person to live in my apartment, so that was obviously nice. But in the two years that I've lived here, my satisfaction has dropped (while the rent has gone up). I live in the ?second phase? so it is at least quieter over here, but have heard some horror stories from the main community regarding noise.
Foremost, the safety has dropped significantly...the mall brings in a lot of traffic (which is bad sometimes). The other day I was stopped by Durham police (crime stoppers)asking if I had seen anything unusual since there had supposedly been a lot of crime in the area recently. My neighbor had his car broken into a few days ago as well. We also get notices from the office almost once every two months about "recent crime." I don't think of the crime is too serious, but worrisome nonetheless. Also, parking can be a nightmare (especially on Sunday nights). I really worry about parking my car so far away, considering the fear of break-ins. Final complaint ? the workout room. I?ve had to join a gym (another $40 a month) because I just cannot get a good workout here. One of the TWO treadmills has been broken for a few months, the elliptical trainer is HORRIBLE, and free weights only up to 30lbs. The equipment may work for some, but for anyone who is into fitness it just doesn?t cut it.
I must admit that some things have gone well here ? otherwise would not have stayed for two years. Big dogs are allowed, which is rare around here (just wish people would clean up after their pets). My experience with maintenance has been helpful (could be better though). My front door has plagued me since I moved in ? chronically gets jammed and I am stuck in or out of my apartment (despite numerous Kong-fu pulls and kicks). Ideally, they would have replaced the door long ago. Office staff has been good as far as I?m concerned ? but I really don?t mingle with them frequently. Location has been nice, especially for me (close enough to UNC, but far enough to get away a little).
I would give the apartment a C grade ? average. But the price is certainly well ABOVE AVERAGE. I just don?t know if you get what you pay for.
