I said that I would check in -
So, six months later and I have recently renewed my lease. I pay $790 for a one bedroom which is up around 5% from my previous rent. Also, during my renegotiation, I was made painfully aware that would be no negotiation. Either pay more or leave is basically how that goes.
The new Super Target and related shopping complex has opened up right across the street. Really nice having all those amenities in literal walking distance. Can't wait till Tomatoes Joe's pizzeria (owner is a resident in The Lodge) opens up in a few weeks. There have not been too many difficulties from the new store except for some increased traffic on the main road. But overall, I am pleased with the new development with regards to the increased convenience.
The staff of the complex has had significant amounts of turnover. However, there is a core group that remains which is helpful since its nice to have people who recognize and know you. But, like my last message, they still never really try to go up and beyond the call of duty. I have had some interaction with the maintenance staff and have found them to be fairly helpful and professional in their job. They have gotten to my issues in a reasonable timeframe and do well to fix the problems.
Security has been a huge problems in the recent months. Two apartments were robbed over the Thanksgiving break. There was also an assault of a women - but details on that are more fuzzy. The apartment always sends out a flyer with an alert when something happens in the community. However, one of their recent messages said, "The Lodge is NOT responsible for your safety or personal well-being". That basically sums up The Lodge's attitude to its community. It is true that we are responsible for our safety but it would be nice to know that someone is also looking out for our best interest. I recently asked the property manager if they were considering gating the community due to safety concerns. She flatly said "NO"! I followed-up asking if their we any additional security features they were adding given the new shopping development across the street. She again responded "NO"!
DOGS! The lodge has finally accomplished its goal of making the dog park completely unusable. After months of resident complaints asking The Lodge to plant more grass in the area, they responded by cutting the area of the park in half and dumping tons of gravel over the remaining portion of the park. The gravel can cut the feet of the dogs and is very unpleasant to walk on. Additionally the gates have been broken for many months now and dogs can easily get out of the fenced area. The pet situation has been a contentious on for the community as some residence don't pick up after their animals which other let their pet off the leash. But, The Lodge has done little to police this and is not very innovative in dealing with the problem. Instead, they just threaten dog owners and take no responsibility for the issues.
From my perspective, parking has been good, the existing amenities are well kept since my last message (although they should have towels in the workout room - kind of disgusting since no one wipes off the equipment), the landscaping has been good for the most part.
Conclusion: The Lodge is a really nice place to live but the residents have to keep on the apartment managers and drive responsibility for issues no matter how much they want to say, "THE Lodge is not responsible for ...". (Take a look at the sign on the dog park for an example).
Well - I am moving in a couple of months but will be sure to update you before then.
