Slowly Deteriorating

Upon first moving in we were a little frightened at some of the people loitering about the parking lot, however, most of our fears proved to be unfounded after settling in. I wish I could still say that. I am in total agreement with the exodus of good tenants and the influx of some less than desirable neighbors. Although nothing serious has occured yet there is the ever-present feeling of not being entirely safe. Between blaring car stereos, excruciatingly loud mini-bikes racing through the parking lot at all hours, various episodes of screaming from the parking lot, and shady people hanging about it is very easy to conclude that this is a completely different complex than the one we moved into over a year ago.
The rent is reasonable although it was supposed to have been raised by nearly two hundred dollars upon our lease renewal. The office did work with us in regards to that. To that extent the office and maintenance staff are comprised of the most helpful and friendly of staff. Sometimes it takes a few attempts to resolve issues but for the most part they are more than willing to help.
Outside of the downgrade in tenants, parking is an absolutely painful situation especially at night when everyone is home as it is not assigned and is a virtual free for all. You will also have to deal with insects though the complex does try to control them. Even on the third floor there is an unbelievable amount of insects present and I won't even go into the issues downstairs tenants have had. There was also a minor problem with mice.
Ultimately Parkside is not an atrocious place to reside, however, there are tradeoffs. If you're comfortable with a sometimes sketchy atmosphere with some shady types lurking about and can handle them yelling at each other than this is your place. It is surrounded by a beautiful neighborhood with a jogging trail around a lake and an unbelievable dog park just up the way, however, Parkside appears to be the relative of that neighborhood that others would rather pretend didn't exist.
