When I first moved here (2 years in Oct.), I couldn't beleive what a nice place I had found! I really do love the apartment- the layout, the sunroom, etc. The only problem with the 3 bedroom is that if you have a roommate, like I do- you have to decide who gets what is clearly the master suite and one of you has to take what is probably supposed to be a kid's bedroom. Whatever. Not a huge deal if at least one of you has a laid-back attitude and is willing to take the smaller room. The apartment itself makes up for this, in my opinion. I love the ceilings and the sunroom.
The kitchen and the bathrooms are rather small in comparison to the rest of the place. The fridge is teeny, and a pantry is definitely needed.
I agree that lately I've been seeing some shady characters and what seem to be college kids around, which is what I moved here to escape! I thought the ridiculous rent would keep these types out, but I guess not. I don't want to hear a really loud car stereo pull up to the building or drive around- I just don't. We didn't use to have this. But I guess if 3 or 4 people split the rent, it's pretty cheap, huh'!
Speaking of too many people in one apartment- I cannot park even remotely close to my building unless I'm home by 6 p.m., which is ridiculous. They should totally assign parking spots to assure that at the very least, the people that live in a building can park near it. I can't tell you how many times I have had to carry groceries 2 blocks to my apt. which seriously pisses me off. I might need to run to the store at night for something for the morning, but decide to do without, cuz I don't want to lose my spot!
The gate looks nice but is pretty much a joke. Only one attendant, the older man, cares at all who comes in. The other 2 let anyone in- including the Durham officer that another poster mentioned! People always follow me in, or they will wait by the gate until a legitimate resident happens to come home.
One more thing- the "lake", which used to be one of my favorite features, is now a scummy pond. The fountain, which used to circulate the water, I guess, has been broken for at least a month now (it's laying beside the lake) and there's a milk jug marking where it goes. Classy! The lack of current has turned the thing into a large swamp and thick clouds of gnats abound. Don't even get me started on the spiders. It's like arachnophobia round here! I feel like I'm coming home to a haunted house at night.
Summary:
units- beautiful and spacious, for the most part, but floorplans not so hot for roommates
grounds- terrible upkeep
staff- okay, I haven't had to come in contact w/ them much
gate- for appearances only- no real security
rent- very high, considering all of the things they let slide

This review is perfect! It describes the apartment complex exactly as it is now. People need to realize that apartment complexes change for the good and the bad, and this one is on the steady slope downward!

I agree with you on that. I live in the back and the parking back there is terrible. The gate is often broken and the upkeep is really terrible. Beautiful apartments but too costly for what you get.

I agree that there is a parking issue in the back area, but the staff seems to be towing away those who don't live here. The reason it is so full is because there are people living here who are not supposed to be, and the complex can only do so much to control that. Although the gate has been broken a few times this winter I think it was because people ran into it. I was leaving the property one night and I saw someone trying to rush through it hoping it would re-open and it didn't, so they just pushed it with the front of their car. I think that there are things that go wrong everywhere, and if I had to choose these things over bugs and being robbed, I would pick these.
