Horribly run apartment complex that will make you wonder why you ever moved in

When we first moved into South Terrace in 2007 we loved the place. The management was wonderful, caring and incredibly helpful. There seemed to be some minor problems, but nothing horrible. Unfortunately, at the present time we have to tell an entirely different story. Sure, the area is really nice. Living in South Durham is really nice and convenient. But South Terrace is becoming a joke: mainly because of the new management.
First, if you need something fixed in your apartment, you'd better be prepared to call multiple times, send emails that will never be acknowledged and then pray it gets to the maintenance staff. If you have to deal with the management, be prepared to be rudely ignored and scoffed at for your requests (no matter how valid).
Second, there seems to be a terrible mold problem. During the winter months when the heat runs, condensation will form in the windows which seems to spur on horrible mold growth. No matter how clean you keep your apartment, it seems to grow out of the walls and bathroom tiles.
Third, the walls, ceilings, and floors are incredibly thin. Not only is it possible to hear conversations of your neighbors, television shows they're watching, etc, and the insulation is awful. Keeping the apartment at a steady temperature is impossible - it seems as if there is a 10-15 degree temperature difference in various parts of the apartment. By the way, if you live near tenants who like to party, you can say goodbye to getting any sleep.
Finally, the management: never in our lives have we dealt with two managers who are more rude and more willing to make it apparent how very little they care about their tenants. It might be better if they at least tried to mask their attitudes behind a fake smile, but you're not even granted that when you have to visit the office. The other people who work in the office are wonderful, kind, attentive, polite and responsive. But since the managers get the final say, it still makes having to visit the office a nightmare.
As soon as our lease is up, we are out of here. There are nicer places around with management staff who actually care about their tenants (or so it would seem). We get the feeling that even if the managers at South Terrace knew how awful they make the living experience, they not only wouldn't care, but they would celebrate your misery and laugh at you as you walk out of the office.
Unless this place has a major management turn around, we would highly recommend that you avoid this apartment complex at all costs.

I'm actually disgusted with the management. I received a notice from them that my lease was to end and I thought it was incorrect and put everything in writing and heard nothing. I work during office hours so was always unable to talk with them and writing is much more formal anyway. They are now referring me to a debt collection agency because I vacated the property on the date they said my lease ended and paid up to that date. They seem to think that I now owe them extra money. It's been five months since I moved out, I came home from work yesterday and found a letter from a debt collection agency out of the blue. WOW just WOW.

HI, please email me at dandydeberry@yahoo.com I am filing a law suit again South Terrace of Auburn. I have held my bill of 8xx.xx in dispute since April and have not received a call back yet. It will go against your credit report. Another ex-resident of South Terrace is filing a law suit also. BYL is a collections agency. This will hurt you when you try to apply for another apartment. They added bogust fees on me also when I moved.
