I have lived at South Terrace since 2005. I am a PhD student at Carolina and was looking for an easy commute to Chapel Hill and a nice community.

I visited many apartment communities in Durham before deciding on ST and have been very happy here for the past four years. I have not experienced the noise, mold, shady neighbors, etc. that the other reviewers have mentioned. At times parking in front of my building is full if I arrive home late at night, but there are always open spaces fairly close.

The management/ownership has had a lot of turnover since I moved in, but I usually find someone in the office that I find helpful and stick to that person when I have a need - at the moment that would be Matthew.

My apartment is absolutely beautiful, my rent has been raised a total of $70 my entire four years here and is still very reasonable. Maintenance is friendly and usually comes the same day or by the next day when I put in a request. I never hear my neighbors in the building make noise or through the walls (actually I rarely see them either). At times I may hear someone outside...but never parties, fights, etc.
It is true that the gate is sometimes broke, unattended, etc....Mr. Ted is the gate man and very nice, but I do agree that the gate system could be improved. However,I have never felt unsafe even when returning home late at night. Each of the apartments have individual alarm systems and panic buttons that you can pay extra to activate and I chose a third floor apartment for added security.

I do not use the gym so I cannot speak on that, I find the pool to be adequate, and I enjoy the free car cleaning/ vacuum area on site. I live in a one bedroom apartment and I do not believe that any of the tenants in my building have children. The few that I have talked to are also grad students, newlyweds, or working professionals.

I have a very busy and stressful schedule so I look forward to coming home to somewhere that I consider to be very peaceful. The vaulted ceilings, garden tub, walk-in closet makes South Terrace that place for me. Not to mention the benefits of living so close to the mall, grocery stores, restaurants, etc.

I understand that everyone will have their different experiences at South Terrace and I just wanted to give my perspective.

This was obviously written by staff, no one could POSSIBLY have this many good things to say about South Terrace. Or if they do, they live by themselves in a building that is vacant and is tucked away from the rest of the complex. THIS IS A HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE place to live!!!!!!

lol...no, I'm not a staff member. But, I do live by myself and as I said I never really see my neighbors. Maybe the one bedroom unites are quieter...I guess everyone's experience is different

I have also not had a good experience while living here I have been without heat in the winter when it was very cold and have had flooding in my apartment and have been treated like a begger while paying my rent and I have to agree with the anonymous response although all experiences are different mine was horrible and I would not recommend this place to anyone and if you do decide to see for youself please BEWARE

All I can say is LOL. How much is South Terrace giving their staff to counter act these reviews? South Terrace is the pits, unsafe and the management is a joke. Even the owners keeo selling to ease themselves of the catastrophe of an accountant they have. LOLOLOL

I have lived here for two years in a two bedroom. I have not had any bad experiences here with the exception of the current management staff needing improvement ...personality wise, organization, and follow-through. Yes there are children in this community, and maybe others live in buildings where they are noisy ... but I have had no problems what so ever in my building... and there are no signs of children playing outside most of the time either! AS for comments about gangs ... I don't know what some people are talking about ... you do not see any such activity in this community ... although I will agree that the turnover in this complex has increased.

I too have not had any problems and the staff in the office is good i live in one near the entrace and afty is no an issue for me. I have lived in the two and one bedroom only problem as far as noise is sometimes i hear ppl up stairs but have in most the apts i have lived in. there are alot of kids but they need places to live too.
