DO NOT LIVE HERE!!! HORRIBLE!
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 5/2/2003
Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2002
Other than the apartment itself (which was fairly nice and new), there are several major problems with this place:
1. Lack of security--The entrance gate was broken the ENTIRE time we lived here EXCEPT during July-August, when most people are moving in (they want to make a good impression, I guess). Not only is it incredibly shady to only have it working for the sake of show, it does nothing to keep non-residents out of the complex and is specifically stated in the lease not to be an effective security measure.
2. Break-ins--Going along with lack of security, there are extremely high rates of both car and apartment break-ins in this complex. The first week we moved in, our next door neighbor had his computer, TV, and CD player stolen from his living room while he was in the shower. A few months later, there were at least twenty break-ins in our parking lot alone, and my boyfriend?s stereo was stolen TWICE in one month. After the second time, he decided not to replace it or it probably would have happened again. When we complained and asked that a camera be installed in our parking lot, the staff told us that it was not their problem. (We lived in one of the back buildings--#1000--and actually had to pay MORE for the "wooded" view.)
3. Price & Pet Deposit--Everyone in our building paid a different price for their lease, depending on when they moved in. We met people in the laundry room who paid $200 less a month than us for a very similar apartment. In addition, the price we were quoted for a pet deposit ($200--and I made sure to clarify that we had two cats), was actually $200 A PET for a total of $400 when we moved in.
4. The Staff--Even the one staff person that was nice eventually became evil and mean as she gained more power in the office. We also signed our lease with a woman who was -----?s spawn and actually enjoyed being rude and horrible to everyone (every resident that we knew over there hated her, too). The staff constantly lied, saying one thing and actually doing another. The only person that was cool was the maintenance man, and he always did a great job with repairs.
5. Toilet emergency--In April of last year, my roommate?s toilet flooded her entire room, all of the dining room, and half of the living room. Even though we called emergency maintenance, they did not come until the next day and then tried to dry up the nasty sewage water with large fan. When the smell and dampness of this mess got to be too much for us, they finally agreed to replace the carpet in my roommate?s room ONLY and to leave the smelly, ruined carpet in the living room (I must now add that this was a defect with the toilet, not something we did to cause it). When we moved out, they reassured us that we wouldn?t have to pay to replace the rest of the carpet (it wasn?t new at all when we moved in) and that they would just clean it. Well, two weeks later we got a fat bill to replace the carpet, which they have subsequently reported to credit companies as failure to pay. When my boyfriend (who worked for Legal Aid at the time and has many lawyer friends) wrote them a letter from all three of us on the lease demanding that they drop these charges, they just took his name off of the fee and are continually pursuing collection from the toilet-water roommate and myself.
I am not a vengeful person. I generally make the best out of every situation and get along with everyone. BUT, this place is HORRIBLE--do not be wooed by the pretty package they try to sell you!!!!
