cheap to lure you in, and then the rent goes up

They gave us incredibly good rent to move in. Then about 35 days before the lease is due for renewal, they give you a friendly letter advising you of your new rates should you choose to extend your lease. The new rates are several hundred dollars a month above what you originally signed up for.
What do you get for your money'
You end up with, frankly, a bunch of *thugs* who are attracted by the cheap rent and then move out within a year. The neighborhood is rapidly turning into a bunch of gangstas driving around with their subwoofers cranked up, doing smokey burnouts in the parking lot, and seeing how fast they can drive through.
I had the distinct pleasure of living downstairs from some thugs. The subwoofers turn on at about 11pm and don't stop until 3am or later. The apartment management is unwilling to do anything about it. The Durham cops aren't too motivated, either.
Tenants throw trash on the ground, and the maintenance crew leaves it there. Landscaping is done regularly but it is by unskilled illegal immigrants who overlook a lot of things because they don't care (and aren't paid to care) enough to do a better job.
More than one time I've had the maintenance crew let themselves into my apartment with NO emergency, NO appointment, a knock and a ten second wait. Completely inexcusable!
Oh and whenever the summer storms would come in with strong winds and rain, my bedroom window would pop out of its tracks into the room and water would be everywhere. Maintenance crew would do nothing about this. Similarly the master bedrooms all have this one window that won't open and is fogged up 95% of the time. All of the units have this problem so that window is a complete waste.
The drug problem has gotten particularly bad in the last year. Buyers & sellers park up at the top of the stairs at all hours of the night behind the Kroger and run down, buy their drugs, linger in the parking lot awhile, and move on out. Lots of shady characters hanging around.
The office staff appeared friendly but some of them were pretty apathetic (some were effective though). I would hand them important signed paperwork that needed to be processed and it would just get lost. This happened several times.
I do have to thank them for one thing: by jacking my rent up they proved to me that I could afford to buy a house in North Raleigh. Life has been so much sweeter since I've moved out of Southpoint Crossing.
