Ripped off when moved out

My daughter moved out and moved to Seattle. I flew out to help her clean up apt, then we left immediately afterwards, stupidly not doing walk-through with management first. Several months later, we received a bill for nearly $600 for such severe pet urine damage that carpet had to be replaced. I cleaned that apartment myself, and I know for a FACT that the cat did not urinate once anywhere outside of her cat box. The carpet was still in good shape, nothing more than normal wear-and-tear over two years. The mgmt now has a brand new carpet and wants us to pay for it. Has anyone else had a similar experience' The carpet cleaning company (Hill's) was very unhelpful--in fact hung up on me when I asked more questions than he was willing to answer. WARNING--always do walk-through with mgmt before moving out, or you're at their mercy!

I don't think you can hold this against management. It is this tenants fault for not going through the apartment with management. Blame your mistakes on the person who made it- you.
I am in no way affiliated with this apartment complex and am only someone looking for a new apartment, but this post made me feel the need to reply.

I just vacated the lofts and was not granted a walk through after several requests. I was told they did not have the time nor the staff to grant me a walk through prior to vacating. This company is a price gouging, unprofessional and unethical group. The gate is always broken, they often leave the music from parties around the pool on all night and no one knows how to turn it off. The staff is defensive, unprofessional and would be better suited to manage section 8 housing.

I don't agree with the response from anonymous #1 (probably an employee of the lofts). They only scedule walk-throughs on Mon-Fri during normal business hours. How many people move out on the weekend or finish moving after the main office has closed? LOTS! They peg EVERYONE for replacing the carpet when they leave, so I heard and now have experienced. There goes over $800 for our apt! Also, they tried to charge my husband and me for our keys and fobs (>$1000) due to one of their employees misplacing them. They finally called back after giving me a near heart attack to tell me that they had found them. Nice organization and appology!!

To anonymous #1: I'm not blaming them for not going thru the apartment with me. I blame them for being completely dishonest with me--for saying that the carpet and underpad was destroyed when I cleaned it the night before we left and I KNOW without a doubt that that carpet was in nearly new condition--NOTHING more than normal wear and tear. They obviously took advantage of my trusting nature to get a new carpet out of us. Their greed and dishonesty is what is wrong--but maybe you think that anyone who doesn't follow the rules deserves to be ripped off?
