Avoid This Place

I had a number of problems with my two year stay at this apartment complex, most of which stem around the incompetence or apathy of the front office staff. Perhaps the most egregious offense of theirs was an occasion when I left town for two and a half weeks to visit family during Christmas. According to a neighbor, my door was kicked in the day after I left. The staff was made aware of this fact but did nothing. They didn't call the police, they didn't call me, they didn't fix the door. To the contrary, when I asked about the incident after returning, they told me they thought I was too embarrassed to report it. They had guessed a neighbor kicked my door in as pay back for a time when my alarm clock went off when I was out. (The walls are really thin and noise transmits easily.) Bear in mind, this event happened at a time when a Duke student and a UNC student were murdered in or near their homes, and when an armed robbery had happened just across the street. I think they should have reacted differently. A kicked-in door and an absent resident warrants at least an attempt to call the resident. Instead, it was only when a kind neighbor called the police that anything was done at all.
The entry gates to the parking garage are frequently broken; sometimes they are stuck open and sometimes they are stuck shut. Shortly after moving in, I was unable to get to either of the two parking garages for exactly this reason. Their computers even showed some malfunction had kept them stuck shut. So I was left to park outside, where all the real spaces were taken, possibly by other residents who were also locked out. I had to park along the other side of the lot and of course the staff called for my car to be towed once they came in in the morning.
As I've mentioned, the walls are thin and you can hear everything everyone does. They left one of the two double doors to the parking garage bolted shut for two weeks, which made moving furniture out just that much more of a hassle. The on-site movie theater is restricted to one usage per day, and so gets booked for weeks in advance. I'm not sure there is a good reason for this policy.
At the end of it all, I can't be dead sure I had a typical experience with this place, but the other comments make me think it wasn't too far from the norm. My advice is to keep looking.

I was also a tenant and share these sentiments exactly. Too bad, it could be a nice place and it is a great location. If the management simply treated me as nice after I became a tenant as they did when I signed up I think I would still be there. This review is dead on the money.
