Fine for short-term, but don't sign a long-term lease!

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
First off, the management has been very nice and helpful. I saw some reviews from the past say that management was awful, but I've had nothing but good experiences with them. Perhaps they have changed in those 4-5 years.
There is plenty of parking, but it is really far from some of the apartments. This ties into safety - once you are in the complex, it is very safe because it is gated and coded, but waking from the parking areas to the gates can be a little unsettling at night.
NOISE - Do you like hearing your neighbors have loud sex EVERY NIGHT' Do you like to hear your neighbor's Guitar Hero parties like they're happening in YOUR OWN APARTMENT' Do you like to hear every conversation your neighbor has or every television show they watch' If so, this is the place for you. If not, then stay far away... I know for a fact that Hicks building and Toms Building are AWFUL for this problem; I'm not sure about Flowers and the Garage. BUT SERIOUSLY, NOISE IS AN AWFUL PROBLEM. They built these apartments from the bottom up... why couldn't they include sound insulation' DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE MONEY FOR SUCH A PROBLEM TO EXIST.
Grounds - They're pretty, but I don't live on the grounds. I live in an apartment, so I just don't really care about grounds.
Construction - some of the fixtures in the apartments are just awful. The mirrored closet doors are shoddy as heck, fall out of track all the time, get stuck, etc. Toilet innards seem to break WAY too often (thus messing up your water bill). The noise issue is just horrific, as I already said.
Maintenance - The maintenance people have always been fast and very helpful.
Overall, I'd say don't live here for more than a few months. It's great if you're between living situations, but to sign a year-long lease and then find yourself with loud sex next door every night, a leaky toilet all the time, and parking a quarter mile away at night... you don't want to be stuck with that for a year. It's a tolerable place for a short time, but that's about it. Also, it is SO expensive for what you get... If there weren't the noise problems and the shoddy fixtures, I really would feel like the price was fair and I'd have no problem with it... after all, I did sign up to live there ;) But, now that I have to live with the problems, it's not worth it.
Ugh.
