I live in one of the "new" buildings, if you can call something constructed in 1899 new. First, let me say that I have no noise problem whatsoever. Sometimes I wonder if anyone else lives in this building, although I see people in the hallways, so I know they do. I think I have heard my neighbor's washing machine once but other than that it is quiet. There has been a party or two, but there is a safety officer on duty until 4 a.m. and they will take care of the issue. I occasionally hear a passing train but the tracks are very close and the fact I don't hear them more is amazing. Parking is fine, there is plenty, you might have to walk a little to some of the buildings (like a block) but I live here so I can walk so it doesn't bother me. I sometimes don't use my car for days; I can walk to work, restaurants, bars, pretty much anywhere I need to go. As for safety, I have no concerns. I walk my dog, at night, downtown. I also walk to and from downtown places like The Federal and Piedmont. As with any place, you need to be smart and aware of your surroundings. There is a lot of unfounded fear of downtown Durham in people who don't live here. Management has always been extremely responsive. They have fixed maintanence requests within 24 hours. The space is visually stimulating and beautiful. I love the 20 foot windows, exposed beams, and brick walls in my apartment. It is by far the best apartment I have ever lived in. One more thing, the complex is very pet friendly.
