I moved into Penrith a few months ago (even though I was hesitant after reading the reviews). I always saw the sign from the road and thought it was the "projects" but it is actually not that bad. The encounters that I have had with the staff were all pleasant. Each time I requested maintenance, it was fixed within a day. Of course, now that summer is approaching, I do hear a lot more noise and see more people riding around, but what do you expect from an apartment complex' My building is actually close to the office, so ordinarily, I don't hear any noise at all. Most of the noise comes from cars riding by blasting music. I have to admit, it was a little difficult to get my mattress up the stairs because the corners are tight, but it wasn't to the point where it couldn't be done. The dishwashers and the refridgerators could use a little upgrading, well actually the whole kitchen could use an upgrade. But as I said, it is livable. I am considered to be very "bourgeoise" and I chose to live here, mostly because of the free month's rent; so if I can do it, anybody can. As far as the bug situation, it may depend on which building you live in because I have only seen two small spiders since I have been there, and that was recent. Also, if you have a lot of trees around, you should expect to see some outside bugs, especially when it starts to get warm. The parking is good, I park directly in front of my building without any problems. I have been "hollered at" since I have been living here, but that can happen anywhere, men will be men. I say just smile and keep it moving. The pool is really nice, it's like 9ft deep. The business center is really nice. There are about 15 computers internet-ready and the gym is awesome too! They even have a sauna that you can use. All in all, I would give it a 2.75 out of 5, mostly because the place is old, I mean it was built in the 80's. Once you add your own personal touch to the place, it won't be as bad as people say. Besides, where else can you get a townhouse with 2 baths for $600' If you want to experience affordable townhouse living in the RTP, I say try it. But try to get in a building close to the office.

My sister lives in Penrith and I was surprised to read all the negatives. She has had no complaints outside of the apartment being very small. Good neighborhood, good school district. Yes, there are a lot Latinos in Penrith, but what apartment complex in Durham doesn't have a growing Hispanic population.
