Pretty Bad!

My husband and I arranged to rent an apartment here via the internet before he PCSd to Ft. Bragg based on the recommendation of an army friend who lived there and like it. When we got there, the apartment they tried to give us was horrible. It smelled awful, the carpet was very stained, and it wasn't even cleaned well. The patio backed up to the pond and when we went in to view the apartment, the 3 resident geese were standing on our patio, one of them was hitting its beak against the window and the patio was completely covered with geese poop. We went back to the office and told them we would not live there. The only other option they had for us was a similar apartment on the next floor up which was $25 more per month so we reluctantly took it, since my husband was not granted TDY leave and he had to be to work the following day and we just didn't know where else to look. The complex was always dirty (garbage, dog poop, geese poop) and loud and I generally felt that we were getting a bad deal, especially when I learned what else was available in town. They also tried to give us a hard time when my husband was deployed and we decided to get out of our lease (which we are allowed to do by law) and buy a house. I furnished them with a copy of the Soldier's and Sailor's civil relief act and a copy of my husband's orders and we got the heck out! The only positive things I have to say about the place is that we didn't have roaches in our apartment (although there were plenty outside around the complex), and the parking was fine. I have since figured out that the apartment complexes in Fayetteville gouge the military because they can, you can find much better deals if you rent a house.
