My girlfriend had gotten an apt here a few months before I moved in with her. It was nice back then before I realized how much drug traffic and theft was going on. We've repeatedly had to call maint. dept. due to things breaking. Over the summer the AC broke twice. The 2nd time we had them come fix it I found that they had somehow messed with all the faucets. Thought nothing of it until I went to take a shower and only got 10 minutes of hot water. They still haven't fixed that. I was only there 6 months (the gate had been broken for 4 of those months) before my car was broken into and most everything inside stolen. The day after I reported to them that my car had been broken into they had the gate fixed. That gate was fixed, however on the other side of the complex another of their gates was broken. One day I saw a homeless guy wandering around the complex. The apt below ours was broken into in broad daylight. They advertise a "gated community" but the gate is the only part. If you're on foot you'll have no problem walking around the gate as there is no fence. If you bring a car (hell just bring a moving van) you can just tailgate someone coming into the gate. We made numerous reports to the office about the noisy neighbor above us (who for some reason thought it was a good idea to vacuum at 2am) but they did nothing. Then they brought in the "security company" and the night after we got the notice, we called them to do something about the noise. They then told us that Abbington Place was no longer one of their clients, we would need to contact the office. After that, we got a notice from Abbington Place to just call the police next time there was a disturbance.

When the christmas season started we got a notice alerting everyone to be aware of any suspicious activity and to keep valuables out of plain sight. I figured it was Abbington Place trying to cover their butts since I asked if they had sent out a notice like this the year before and the answer was "no". Maybe if the rent was half of what it is I would expect this kind of living, but for the amount you're paying you may as well just buy a house in a safe neighborhood and pay the mortgage.

Lived here?

I currently live at Abbington Place and the only thing I find truth in is that the gates break often. I have always felt safe living here. I get packages delivered to me and left at my doorstep and they are never taken. I have never had anyone break in, and the people (neighbors) I have had have always been friendly. Maintenance always has came and fixed whatever problem I have had the same day I called. I have never had any serious maintenance issues. (I have lived here twice now once back in 06 and also for the past year and a half) I also got the note about security, but it was about protecting yourself when you are out and about. Running errands and the sort. It is common sense that around the Christmas season people are more desperate and more theft happens. I think that the apartments are slightly over priced, but no issues. NO BUG PROBLEMS. That's very important.

I know it's common sense, but what it tells me since they haven't been sending such notes out on a regular basis is that they're aware of the elevated criminal activity in the area and they're just trying to cover their own asses instead of actually trying to maintain secure grounds. I'm just so thankful that we're purchasing a condo that's bigger than the apt we're renting now, and the neighborhood is a lot better/more secure and its actually CHEAPER than the abbington cesspool.
