The real truth! Just Awful... All Details listed in depth.

I'm going on my second year here and it's getting worse - BIG TIME! It used to be nice...years ago. Then new management was introduced in 2005. This can be noted when looking at the ratings from a few years ago, compared to present times.
First; lets just say that the new management is not as kind as the other managers were. They pretend to be nice when possible tenants are looking, but then treat tenants poorly. I've always paid on time, so that isn't an issue. Kindness is short-lived here at Autumn Park. They claim that living here comes naturally; but that is the farthest from the truth. Many of us were told that there were NO restrictions to amenities, thus my decision, like many other families, was made on AMENITIES for myself AND my teen who has NOT created a single troubling incident in almost 2 years!! Amenities include: use of the computer for a school project or getting a cup of hot chocolate or even the use of the restroom while walking around the complex or swimming.
I had to walk out of the clubhouse the other day as a couple of the manager women were bombarding me with disrespectful, rude explanations to THE RULES, obviously with NO one present, except the horrified maintenance crew. Would they dare say anything in front of someone considering living here or even another resident' Unfortunately, its mostly the parents of teens getting the blame and bad rap for kids that don't even live here! Definitely NOT pleasant!!
MANY of The Rules were changed in the summer of 2005 causing frustration to tenants that pay high rent only to have their privileges taken away!
Second, car break-ins...sometimes up to 5 to 8 cars a night, several times a year; and it's increasing. Mine has been broken into twice and there is nothing fancy about my car, which was locked. One of the vandals totally gutted out a really nice car a few weeks ago, completely destroyed. The complex reaction to these increasing vandalisms is poor. They send out notices stating that we are a wonderful community and to look out for one another. NOTHING about a police phone number nor a personal request for residents to report any sightings to the police! The latest round of vandalism yielded no response.
Third; they closed the pool at 8pm most of the 2005 summer because the pool light was out. It didn't get dark until after 9pm, so there was no need to close at 8pm!! This made it impossible for residents to enjoy a cookout later in the day when the sun was not intense. Autumn Park management claimed that they could not find a underwater pool light, for 2-1/2 months!! Wasted summer nights.
Forth; Parking is horrible. I've had to park at another building and walk to my complex, countless times. I've unloaded groceries in the street and re-parked farther away, no matter the weather. I rent a 2 bedroom and have just one car. You can notice the parking problem if you look at the spots available and figure that each building has 26 units. There are ONLY 24 spaces in front of my building!! The spaces fill up quick.
Fifth; if you have older children, then please choose NOT to live here, because kids and teens are not treated kindly. The playground surroundings have been unfinished for years! Not very safe, either. Lots of trees and No lights.
Teens are treated worse. I have a teen who is not allowed at the pool with her friends nor allowed in the clubhouse to use the computer, get a cup of hot chocolate or use the restroom. Not all teens are bad and out-of-control.
The bottom line The New managers - fill vacancies and enforce rules, you know the ones the good kids will obey and the bad ones will NOT obey.
Sixth; The clubhouse printer is usually out-of-ink, for many months in a row before they install a new ink cartridge. The coffee machine has NEVER been cleaned, at least not in the past year that I??ve taken notice, but I haven't checked it recently. It's too disgusting!! (update: its finally been cleaned)
There are usually just one or two rolls of wrapping paper in the computer room and very little of it left. These issues would not be a problem, but they are the some of the reasons this apt. complex uses as benefits of living here.
Seventh; A tell-tail sign of a poorly run complex is noted by looking at the maintenance department, overworked. Most of the maint. workers are truly kind, hard working individuals. They have lost half of their maint. workers in the past several months. I can't blame them and they are missed. Some had been employed here for years.
Not by fault of the maintenance workers, but I have a problem with my furnace that they can't fix; making this particular unit a nightmare. A loud noise jolts us up at night, a couple times, every night... and it is becoming stressful, although I give them an "A" for effort.
Overall, the maint. dept. is great! I feel terrible for them as they don??t deserve the treatment they are getting. They used to be a lot happier.
I've had the fire department here because of smoke from the 2 different plug outlets and the burnt smell from those two different outlets. Both outlets fried the plugs, thus ruining the fixtures plugged in. Management acted as though it was no big deal, just as they did when my car was broken into, twice!
So, that concludes my in-depth description of the real truth to living at Autumn Park. Some details I'm not mentioning, just to spare a little.
I know MANY residents who feel the same. My lease is up in a few months and I can't wait to move!
Feel free to contact me!
Good luck in your apartment search and I hope you find a nice home.

I totally agree with everything youre saying. Management i horrible, and how can they swicth the rules to late rent when it is not in the lease you signed. I am from Durham and we have colonial properties there, when i found out that who was taking over, I wanted to cry. Youre absolutely correct, maintenance is have wonderful personalities and that is the only one good thing about this place. Oh and another, how can they expect residents to pick up after there dogs and they cannot pick up after these nasty ducks.

I don't agree with Laura. The staff has changed and they have always been very helpful especially when my car was broken into. There really isn't much you can do except call your insurance and police. Laura if you lived in a house what or who would complain to? I do agree about the geese. What are you going to do? Have you asked them about cleaning up? I did and they pressured washed the sidewalk. As for the teens not able to be left unattended at the pool...wonderful! Having them running around with no respect for residents who want to relax. It's funny to hear the you speak for many of the residents here...I don't think that I ever got the memo on a Resident/community meeting? Well, it is a nice place and all of the people here are nice. Great floor plans. |

Nursescare, THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO YOUR ATTEMPT TO RESPOND TO MY POST LATE FEB. 28 Your kidding right? Your are obviously new here...2006 according to your post. Much of your response directed at me had NOTHING to do with my comments. And you've already had your car broken into. You obviously pointed out my issue about the car break-ins ~ There are too many of them! What memo about a community meeting?? And I said NOTHING about the geese... Your response has so LITTLE to do with my comments so please read my info and PLEASE direct your personal comments accordingly!! I left an honest post to my experience at Autumn Park. I know MANY residents who feel the same way I do, as I've lived here a while! I had to walk out the other day as a couple of the manager women were bombarding me with rude explanations to THE RULES, obviously with NO one present, except the horrified maintenance crew. Would they dare say anything in front of someone considering living here or even another resident? Unfortunately, its mostly the parents of teens getting the blame and bad rap for kids that don't even live here! Definitely NOT pleasant!! Many of us were told that there were NO restrictions to amenities, thus my decision, like many other families, was made on AMENITIES for myself AND my teen who has NOT created a single troubling incident in the prior 1-1/2 years living here!! Amenities include: use of the computer for a school project or to grab a cup of hot chocolate or to even use the restroom while walking around the complex or swimming. As for my daughter, she has been taught to respect others and she does so... NOT all teens are bad kids. It makes it difficult for parents like me to want their children to respect people like you who have already made up their mind about them. You sound real nice as you're assuming teens make relaxing difficult for you??? and younger children make far more noise which might also interfere with your relaxation, but I'm NOT complaining about that because it's human nature. Unattended teens are everywhere. There are some good teens here! The pool wasn't created so that ONLY YOU can relax by it, rather everyone should be entitled to enjoy it. And your post says that you just moved in, so how can you HONESTLY comment as you were not here last summer. New managers entered last summer and can't seem to control problem kids; many don't even live here. They punish and DISRESPECT our own kids; many of which are NOT part of the problem, as they do my teen daughter trying to get a quick cup of hot chocolate - she DOES clean up after herself. End result = the bad kids will still come around. The bottom line ~~~~~~ New management team - fills vacancies and they enforce rules, you know the ones the good kids will obey and the bad ones will NOT obey. You missed most of the points about my post, BIG TIME. But gotta love those floor plans, especially as your parking at another building. |
