I have been living here for over one year and I understand that it is a "dog friendly" complex. However, if the complex is dog-friendly then I think the dogs should be friendly. When I first moved in, there was nothing but small cute dogs, labs or retrievers. Now, there is a tremendous increase of pitbulls. One neighbor has 3 in her apartment alone!! People have even brought their pitbulls into the pool area. I used to feel safe to jog around the complex by myself but I had to stop due to irresponsible dog owners not using leashes. Also, people do NOT pick up after their dogs. You will find poop only a few feet away from dog-waste disposal cans because owners are too lazy to pick it up! Disgusting! I enjoyed the type of complex it was when I first moved in a year ago?? friendly people and friendly dogs. Now there are scary people and scary dogs!

Your an idiot. I don't live there, but am an advocate for pit bulls. Have these dogs ever tried to harm you in anyway? Or do they just look "scary" to you? Or do you just listen to the media hype about them and assume the worst? Maybe if you took the time to actually approach the dog and their owner , you might find out their one of the sweetest and silly breeds that exist. The only thing I can agree with you on is that dog owners shouls ALWAYS have their dogs on a leash and should always pick up after their dogs. That is part of the responsibility of having a dog.

i'm very offended about the comment on pitbulls. I have stayed in Autumn Park for over a year and have a pitbull. She is also on a leash and has not bothered any person or dog. I agree with pascow22 what stereotypes can do for a dog. My dog is 2 yrs old and gets along with everyone. Please don't judge a book by its cover.

I actually tried to approach someone to pet their pit bull puppy and was told that they did not want anyone to pet it except for them, the owners. Guess what type of dog they are raising and it doesn't say much for the owner. I'm offended that some of you don't see the research out there with regards to pit bulls. Some cities have entirely banned them. And many apartment complex's do not allow pit bulls. In addition, resorting to name calling is uncalled for and reflects on you, the pit bull owner's personality. Now that is scary.

Why would you own a dog if you live in an apartment? Dogs need to be outside and run. They create a lot of waste and unsanitary living conditions if not properly groomed. Your pitbull may be nice but as a veterinarian I know that the breed is extremely aggresive, lacks the intelligence of many other breeds of dogs due to insifficient blood lines and poor owner training and attention. Pitbulls are a breed that must be corrected almost to the point of abusive behavior in order to resolve the natural aggression from a young age. Too commonly today Pits are bought in order to look cool and give the owner an image of toughness instead of using the breed for what it was intended and that is to provide security and protection in a controlled environment. That means not protecting a drug dealer from being robbed or protecting your apartment from disgruntled friends. They were bred to protect property owners from life threatening attacks in areas with certain danger and police protection was not an option. They are a lower breed of working dogs such as Dobermans, Germans and Rottweilers. Thus they need to be worked. Their muscular body and low wide stance make them a very fit and beautiful breed and dog and the puppies are extremely cute with their large heads and soft coats. Any breed of dog has the potential for aggression due to the way it was raised, however, few dogs exhibit aggression naturally as pits do. Lap dogs and toy breeds are ok for Apt life but any dog larger than twice the size of a cat really needs an outside environment to be happy. So while your dog may not be mean, I really doubt it is truly happy aside from the attention you show it.

There are many counts of pitbull agressivity all over the world. There was one recent case in france of a boy whose face was half ripped away by a pitbull. Often the owner would say "it never attacked anyone. it is so sweet blah blah". I would never feel safe for my children in an apartment complex with pitbull around. It is crazy to allow people to raise pitbulls in an apartment. I am against guns but if I knew I was living with that dog breed lurking around unleashed I would not hesitate carry one and use it if necessary.

kenetoken You are clearly NOT a vet. Pit bulls are one of the MORE intelligent breeds. They are very easily trained and catch on very quickly. Extremely aggressive is entirely false. Are some aggressive? Sure. All? No. I live with my pit bull and my apartment is far from unsanitary. Next up, pit bulls are not guard dogs. They were never bred for that purpose, and frankly, aren't very good at it. Anyone that knows pit bulls aren't afraid of them, so a burglar is not going to be scared of one. gugug, its crazy to raise your kids in an apartment. I am not a fan of CPS, but I'd call them to come get your kids. (See how stupid that sounds?)

i laught at stupid people. just because the news says its a pitbull doesnt mean it is. pitbulls are OFTEN confused with am staffs, bull terriers, bull mastiffs, dogo argentinos, dogue de bordeau, american bulldogs, cane corso, and curr dogs. owners are what make their dogs aggressive! and if you are so closed minded to no realize that than you need to just shut up!!! i own a pitbull and a BOSTON TERRIER!!!! i've had my pitbull longer and her and my small dog get along perfectly, she actually prefers to play with small animals. So really? Be scared all you want but there's nothing to be scared about rather than stupid low life people training their dogs to be aggressive. STOP GIVING THE BREED A BAD NAME! If you don't know anything about them than you have nothing to say! More golden retrievers have attacked people than pitbulls, it's a case of mistaken idenity when it comes to the pit bull!

Wow. Your people are unbeleivable. I personally own a pitbull and just adopted a pitbull puppy today. They are incredible dogs. its not the DOG who is born mean its the bad owners who make them that way. If you teach your dog to have a sweethearted disposition it will have that. My boyfriend also has 3 pitbulls not small ones either. They are huge! Aside from their huge bodies they are the sweetest dogs I have ever met. So your comments on how pitbulls should be banned from housing complexes just because people say they are an AGRESSIVE BREED maybe you should try owning your own before making these judgements.

wow its people like you lady that keep people scared of my dogs.we have 3 pitbulls and people are amazed when they see them.they cannot believe that what they hear in the media could ever be related to my dogs. stop being so stuck up and living in your turtle shell you need to relize that there is more to life than labs, retrievers, and yorkies. please do some research and stop hating on some thing you have no information or experience in. Go adopt one and you will understand and then hate your self for even writing what you did.

i am also and advocate for the pit bull. they are an awesome breed that if and when trained correctly will adjust to how you live. just like any breed. Example, i have a 3 1/2 yr old female pit bull who is the biggest couch potato in the world! sure if u wanna go running she is up for it. oh yea, just because if you go up to ANY dog and the owner refuses to let you pet them that doesn't mean that they are keeping them anti-social or the person or dog is up to no good.. maybe they don't want strangers getting all friendly with their pet. maybe they know that the dog just doesn't like other people. I rescued my pit and its not her fault she doesn't like too many men. I honestly think she was abused by men in her early life and wants nothing to do with them. so when i take her out on walks, i tell people, especially men that she prefers women to men, and to not pet her. I have been working on this issue with her for a few years now, she's getting better, but sometimes I feel that her 6th sense kicks in and she knows a good person from a bad person and maybe i should just let her be herself during times like this. i mean would u rather the owner just let u pet their dog at ur own risk? hell no! thats a lawsuit waitin to happen! true, responsible pit owners know how to avoid situations like that. also for all you know they could be in a canine therapy or good citizen training and maybe they are trying to keep their dog focused. don't take it so personal. those to me are responsible owners. i now have a second one and i'm about to get a 3rd one this week.. and even my second one is the friendliest dog ever! sometimes I am scared for her friendly nature because she'll jump and go for a ride in anyones car. please also keep in mind that pit bulls are terriers! their tenacious go get em attitude can also be found in yorkshire terriers, schnauzers, jack russells etc. i have been working with all types of bigdog breeds since i was 12 and i am now 23 and have yet crossed a pit bull that was going to eat me alive. if u know how to respect the breed, they will easily respect u. Just a side bar, were u aware that there are more unreported dog bites from yorkies and poms( one killed a 6 wk old baby) than that of pit bulls as well as the first facal transplant that took place in england, the ladies "lovely" labrador was the one that was to blame on that incident on tearing her face apart. people like drama! people like negative! do ur research first before u even think about saying anything like that.. be careful! the people with the pits, and their pits themselves are out to get you!!! muah hahahaha!!

When I was growing up I never had a dog of my own. The only dogs that I came into contact with were those around me, others that I saw and those of my friends. I am a huge dog lover and my dog of choice is a PIT BULL!!! I dog sit and do various other activities that involve all sorts of dogs (and sometimes cats and other animals) and I am not trying to sugar coat anything when I say this, but if there needed to be any animals on a restricted breed list it would have to be some of the cats and other "non aggresive" breeds of dogs. I know a beagle who killed my friends dog out of no where and I was walking my boyfriends pit bull the other day when a ------- cat leaped out and attacked us and he just stood in front of me and didn't move or take his eyes off of it. I sleep with my dog everynight now and I have had children, animals and adults young and old around him and there has never been a problem. He even listens without a leash or in a crowd of people, and I have been told by everyone who has come into contact with him how amazing he is (including apartment managers!)!He is not the only one of his kind and this is a prime example that how you raise your pet is how they will turn out (kind of like some of you how have bratty kids, you could learn something from pit bull owners! We don't tell you to get rid of your annoying kid so I guess you'll have to deal with our obedient Pits!!). Not to mention, Great Danes and Boxers are on restricted and aggressive breed lists also, so who is to say what is considered aggressive or not when obviously the only factor that comes into play is not wanting to take the time to be informed of your breed. PS some of the news that is promoted on television through bad media aren't pure Pit Bulls but rather mixed breeds that they refer to as Pits. Also, many of the time, some of these crazy stories are the fault of a stupid human not the animal. Even movies have pits and children side by side, and the "Dog Whisperer's" best dog is a pit! So before you think you know what you are talking about, do the research because as far as I am concered Stereotyping a breed and wishing for it to be put to sleep or go away is as bad as discriminating against a race of people who never harmed you and that you know nothing about. Don't dog it before you try it and if you choose not to, then get over it because we're not going anywhere!
