Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008

I lived in Friendly Hills, now called Westbourgh Apartments, from February 2006 to April 2008. I lived on the thrid floor in a one bedroom apartment that had a large living room that could be divided into two to make a second bedroom.

When I first moved in I had trouble with my neighbors being too loud, but complaining did very little. In the warm months I had roaches in the kitchen and living room and no matter how many times I reported them and had someone come and spray, they returned. When the Hills got new management the loud neighbor problem disappeared, but the roaches did not. In fact, with all the construction that was going on to improve the look of the complex, the roaches got worse. After 6 months of reporting the problem (circa March 2008) I learned the exterminator had told the managers that since he could not find where they were coming from that I must be bringing the bugs into the apartment. I posted this to my blog, warning friends to stay away from the complex, and two days later an exterminator from a different company came to my apartment, sprayed and I was roach-free for the last two months I lived there.

The managers were friendly, understanding and helpful whenever I went down to speak with them. The maintences crew would fix a problem within two days of the reported problem, depending on the nature of the problem; broken air conditioner in the summer was handled faster than a jammed window.

When I left, the complex was undergoing major renovations. Parking was not difficult to find if you got off work and returned to the complex before 6pm, but after 6pm it was next to impossible to find a place to park infront of your building. New lights were being installed to improve the previously poor lighting conditions, a lot of the trees were being cut down, and the parking lots were going to be repaved. The inside of the apartments were going to be updated as well, but when I first moved in they were a bit on the cheap side.

All in all, it is a good starting apartment and with its improvements it might be a place worth staying at for a year or two, but if you are looking for something to last you a long time, I would suggest looking else where.
