Good for the price

I went to ECU for 1.5 years and lived in the 2 bedroom apartments that Villag Green offers (on 10th street). After my first year, I moved to a different unit because my apartment was broken into (most likely by the people who lived below me). The apartment has a lot of space for the price, you won't find anything else near campus for $485 that's 1000 square feet. It is on the ECU bus line, as well as the city bus route, and its not too far to take your bike to campus (there are also some decent places to go for walks/bike rides around the area if you're into that). The apartment management does offer an "early bird" rent drawing that you can enter by paying your rent before the 1st over every month, if you win you get $100 or something like that (I never won). For the most part, the maintenance people will do what you ask them to, the only problem I ever had was that my roommates powerstrip got pulled out of the socket once and blew a fuse.. the maintenance people came and said that if it happened again we'd have to pay.

NOT SO GOOD:
The worst thing is that the electric bill when running the a/c can be over $100 a month and heating w/ natural gas gets rather epensive as well. Also, I have found my room a bit short of outlets, which can easily be fixed with powerstrips, but make sure you think about that if you look at the apartments. I can almost guaratee that some point while living here you will come encounter with some rather large cockroachs, but if you call and ask them to get the pest people to respay your place, they seem to be pretty accomodating. The wireless internet that comes free with the place can be somewhat irritating, it sometimes goes out (particularly during/after storms) and if you get the wrong person when calling the Suddenlink people, they don't really know what's going on. As far as noise goes, sometimes you'll hear loud music, sometimes you'll hear the people that live near you running around, if you tell management they won't do anything unless you have personally tried to adress the problem; depending on which apartment you're in you might also hear really loud cars, the train that's a few streets over, or the bar in front of one set of apartments (which I believe is currently shut down). The layout of all the apartments is about the same, but the built-in storage/shelving varies, so make sure you look at the apartment you'll really be getting before you plan what you'll need for storage and such. My bike also almost got stolen one day while I was out of town, which isn't the apartments fault.. just be advised to make sure all of your stuff is packed up before leaving for awhile. As far as parking goes, if you're on the lease you get a parking sticker and then they have "visitor lots" which can be inconvenient depending on which apartment you live in (they really do enforce towing, even if the parking lot isnt anywhere near full). There does happen to be a ceiling fan in the living room, so that's pretty nice as well.

Well hope that helps you on your search! I found that there wasn't really any other apartments close enough to school that had a low cost with a good amount of space, so overall I thought this was a pretty decent place to live (still think it sucks that I'm pretty sure my neighbor broke in and took all my stuff and the police never really did anything about it, but that's life).
