It is blantanly obvious to those of us who have lived at Mosteller and still live there that the ------------ in the office is rounding up her friends to write rave reviews. She will do anything to keep her job!!! She even sent out a list of what's acceptable behavior for the residents!! Like she is the new Sherriff in town! But it doesn't apply to those that she likes and is friends with. Her friends can do what ever and be disruptive all they want and she won't say anything to them. What a joke,the truth is she couldn't find her way of a paper bag if she had to. She still drives her car with------------, and she's had the car for like a year! That is so cool, she's just another one that abuses the system to her advantage. She only got promoted because the previous manager quit and no one wants to deal with the owner, plus she lives rent-free as long as she works in the office. So you do the math. Sure the place looks okay, but the shady tactics they use to get people in are not so on the up and up. The owner lets the manager lie to the people just to shut them up, cause they are tired of hearing about the crappy cable and internet service. Which by the way they are making that free cause it sucks sooo bad. Its so annoying to have to leave ten messages to get anything done, and they never answer the phone. Oh and lets just say the bartender they have, not so pleasant. But as long as she likes you, she will keep the drinks flowing, at no charge for her alcoholic buddies! Nothing like a little favortisim for those residents on the in-crowd list. But if your not on that list, forget about getting any kind of deals. Its amazing how this place keeps any help, everyone seems to quit. My suggestion, keep looking. This place is way overpriced. And the headaches that come with it are not worth the trouble. Save yourself some money and aggrivation, keep looking.

My name is ------------------, and I am the Property Manager at Mosteller Mansion. In the past, I have avoided posting responses on this site, because typically there are one or two renters that do the majority of the posts???and yes, we usually can tell who they are.
The extent of the rhetoric on this site has prompted me to write a response to the recent posts. Please bare in mind that typically there is only one side represented on this site, and every pancake has two sides! Here are some facts in response to the ???could be so much better??? post and the oh-so professional ???Mosteller Sucks??? post:
1. ???We have felons living in all of the buildings???- O.k., every single person that is a lease holder goes through a criminal background check at move-in. This is a service that we pay for through a national company called First American Registry. There is also a national sex offender, and terrorist database check completed at that time.
2. ???The Tenant turnover is extremely high???- Tenant turnover is typically high at communities that have our rent price point. Our average renter is renting because they are new to the area and in-between home purchases. We also have a corporate clientele that rents on a short term basis for jobs. Our average annual turnover is approximately 45-55%
3. ???Parking is an absolute nightmare???- Parking does get tight when we are at maximum occupancy. We have sent letters to residents to ask that their guests park in overflow parking, and even reduced the rental rates on some garages that are in areas that the parking is tight.
4. ???The ladies in the office barely keep up with what they are doing???- Gosh is this true-sometimes. I am sure whomever is reading this that is employed can remember times they have ???barely kept up with what they were doing??? at their job. Phone messages are checked daily and returned in the order of importance.
5. ???All they care about is filling empty apartments???-Well, admittedly yes. If we didn???t care about filling empty apartments we wouldn???t necessarily be doing our job.
6. ???The satellite service sucks and the internet service is even worse???- Our satellite package is a 68 channel service, with HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax. It is $45.00 per month, which is well below what you would pay for comparable services through Charter. We have had issues in the past with the dish when the weather is bad, but I think we have resolved those. We have had problems with our internet service. We are constantly troubleshooting, and working to make that system better. Sorry for the inconvenience.
7. ???Tenants that stay long term get nothing except our rent gets increased all the time???- We ALWAYS keep our current tenants under what the market price of the apartments are as a courtesy for their loyalty. Keep that in mind, and look at price sheet when you come in. Occasionally we are forced to run move-in specials to remain competitive in our market. We currently have several units that we have discounted because they haven???t rented in several months. This is not abnormal in this industry. This is a product of very basic supply and demand, and is in NO WAY meant as a method to take advantage of our residents. Things go on sale all the time!
8. ???They have no place for the kids to play?????? Unfortunately, no we don???t have a playground. But we have never had a playground, nor promised a playground for children. When families with children moved in, they knew this. It was still their decision to move here. However, there are beautiful parks in our city???ones with top notch equipment and convenient locations. You should check them out!
9. And again there is a mention that ???Felons live everywhere in this community, even house arrest ones, and steal things out of your vehicles!??? I will have you reference #1 in my list again. I also called our courtesy officer who is employed by Hickory Police Department. Since the property has been open (October, 2006) there has been one report made for stolen goods/larceny for a package that was missing from someone???s door dated 1/15/08, and that is all. You can verify that by calling the PD at 828-328-5551.
10. ???If the Owner would listen to his tenants and put up an outdoor pool and play area a lot of us would be happy.???-Rest assured that your desires for more amenities have been communicated to the Owner. I am sure that you can imagine the capital commitment that pools, and playgrounds would be. I am also sure that you also saw that outdoor pools, and playgrounds have never been in our master plan, nor promised to any tenants. Some places have outdoor pools, some do not. This is not something that has changed during our 2 years we have been open.
11. ???We need a daycare center like he advertised.???- Yes, we did and do advertise the daycare center. It is still in the plans. There are a multitude of factors that go into building a multi-million dollar building. We can???t pull a string and have it pop up. Our development plans could possibly take several years to complete, and with our wavering economy, it may take that entire time to get the project completed. It was never our intent to be deceitful. A well rounded point-of-view includes market factors that were not planned for, and out of our control.
12. ???I don???t feel safe walking my dogs in the evening???- Again, that is unfortunate. As you can see from the comment in number nine, this community is not a haven for crime and feelings of uneasiness.
I feel I have touched on the major points of the recent posts. I hope who ever read this realizes that myself and my Management Team don???t claim to be perfect. We are all people just like you, trying to do a job and get along in the world. Sometimes our residents forget that we are all human beings and all deserve fair and ethical treatment. Come by???visit us for yourself.

I think -----'s response to this was right on!!! I've been here 2 years and have been treated fairly. The office staff has always been courteous and given us as much information as they have. The rent here is no more than what I expected to pay. Apartment rent is always a waste of money but it is a roof over your head until you can build or do better. My only complaint would be the stupid tenants who take their dogs out and let them go any and everywhere and never bother to pick it up. Unfortunately the office staff can't be out every minute to see what idiots are letting their dogs do. That was just addressed in our most recent news letter which by the way is put in our door every month. No, this place is not perfect. I've never lived anywhere that was. Sure, I would much rather have an outdoor pool but that was never mentioned nor promised by anyone when we moved in. The rent at the other apartments in the area are as high or higher if you get a decent place to live. I have never felt a threat by anyone here. I live in the second building and at one time the parking was bad but it is better now. I just felt it was finely time to write a positive response because unfortunately people only seem to report on the negative. Also, maybe if you made your request to office staff in a kind way you would get a better response. I've never had a problem. I was here before ------ever became manager and I can truthfully say she is doing a good job, much better than the others. Oh yeah, they have some good parties around here. Last May was a biggie and it was great.

Ms. ------you are sadly wrong and most likely another young girl trying to get ----- Pilos' attention and admiration trying to do a "good job".
Mosteller was opened long before Oct 2008 (because we lived there then) and our friend was the first manager there coming from Asheville where we rented over 2 years from same guy/people then and many similar problems occurred.
Our time at Mosteller we found many people complaining to the office with nothing happening after our cars have been vanadlized or on one occassion, our neighbor even had an $800.00 weather recording station for his work smashed to pieces and the office manager then would only say "you have to expect these things when you move into a close community of people"... We also watched several drug deals going down and tenants getting tired of calling the on-site police guy as he/they did nothing and why you, this place and the whole mess will fall apart along with the declining economy and commercial developers like Pilos/Delphi who got banks in their pockets, slammed building up fast without quality incorporated in the building process (exploiting illegals many times thru the GC's used), paid off inspectors and other City officials along the way, only cared about getting tenants to pay rent, and knew the poorly constructed buildings will require maintenance shortly and now refuse to adress those problems- serves the greedy bastards right as they are a big part of what has created this housing debacle across the nation with deceit, tricky programs and leases and other traits thinking they can only rake in $Billions and people will be forced to keep paying more and more...

------is a liar. say whatever you need to say to get those apartments rented girl!!! ALL --------!!! Mosteller SUCKS!!! All of the bad things that are posted on this site are soooo true..... I have been at mosteller for two years and have never even seen -----. She has no idea what tenants are being promised when they move in because she is never in the leasing office. I, too, was promised a playground by the idiot that worked in the leasing office when I moved in. I should have known not to move here when I saw her pack of cigs on her desk... How professional!!! You will be promised the world but you will be miserable if you fall for it and move here.

The first poster is right, it's a total scam. And why are -----'s old postings from April reposted here? That manager left a little ago (for the second time) because she was fed up with all the nonsense and the owner. Bethany is nice but not so bright. she's is trying hard to keep her job and will do whatever the owner tells her because she knows she won't find another job like this around here, and get a free apartment. She could never write a response as well-thought as -----'s was. Regardless, these most recent October postings are clearly the staff and owner trying to improve their overall ratings on this site. It's so obvious it's an insult to any reasonable person. And why would any current tenant post a name especially if we're posting to tell our real experiences and not just because we are a part of the little scam going on here? That would only make the service we get and proper treatment we deserve less than what it already is and that's pretty bad. Save yourself the trouble. If you're looking for a peaceful, fair and decent living arrangement look elsewhere. This place is over rated and misleading and i'm not alone looking forward to the end of my lease.
