Things are changing...

I moved into Birkdale Apartment Homes 9 months ago. I rented a one bedroom with a den and one bath unit, plus a garage and w/d rental in the unit. Total rent is over $1,000/mo, plus utilities. Basically, I like it here, but a month ago, the apartment manager left and things are rapidly changing...and not for the better.
I guess what I have noticed most is the arrogant attitude of the new managers. The Sunday person never knows anything or can get anything done for you, so don't even bother asking. She is pretty though and pleasant, but that's not helpful.
This complex offers a variety of lease options, which is great if you're moving into the area and plan to buy a house. However, they change the options monthly. I had a 6 month lease and then renewed for 3 months, as I am trying to buy a home. I wanted to renew again for 3 months and had explained that to the Sunday manager when I was in the office on 2 different occasions. I also told it to the new asst. manager. No one told me it wasn't going to be an option.
Today I called to confirm that my lease would be ready to sign this weekend. (Yes, that's two days from now.) And I was told by the complex manager that I had to renew for 6 months or longer, or go to a month-to-month lease at $125/mo more or I could give a month's notice and move. Nice choices, huh' None of which help me out and she was not even a little pleasant about it.
I haven't yet decided what I'll do, but if you come here, BEWARE!!!
Other than that, it's not too bad a place. The maintenance guys are really nice to deal with and respond quickly and efficiently. It's a convenient location to Charlotte, all the highways, and Birkdale Village. It's relatively safe. There are a few loud party animals and happy hour drunks, but the units are insulated enough so it's not very noisy. Lots of dogs here though, including mine, but most people pick up after them and keep them on leashes.

Management is getting worse. Dishonest in what they tell you. Seems they snuck in an extra $10 rent increase without telling me about it, even though I asked. Shame on them. It's my own fault for trusting anything they say. BTW, water leak has been reported three times, worked on twice and not fixed, and didn't even respond the last time. Noise from partying neighbors has increased drastically.
