Better Living in the Barracks
From: Timothy.Seiler@USMC.milDate posted: 5/29/2008
Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
First off, I don't believe you should hose somebody and not give them the decency of a name. I am Sgt ----------------------------------------------, and I wish to God we had found ANY other place to live.
The apartments sounded really nice, and looked great at first. The office personnel were very friendly as well. However, do you remember the two faced B@#$ in high school that would stab you the second you turned around' Well these are them. Every complaint we have made has fallen on deaf ears, and management does nothing of their own accord.
Parking is a nightmare. People don't use their parking stickers, so you never know if it is a resident or some random person in front of the building. That doesn't even matter though, because the management would do nothing to move an out of place vehicle anyway. At night, the problem is so bad that I have been forced to park nearly three football fields away from my apartment. My other neighbors have fallen into parking in the handicap spots (that aren't needed since we have none in the complex), no parking zones, and even just on the side of the road.
As for safety... The locks can be ripped off the door by a five year old. Our front door knob broke off during normal use, and what's worse...' The management said we might have to pay to replace the original style knob, because we bought one that was more secure.
The apartments are by no means sound proof. In fact, I would say that they used less insolation than normal. If you turn off all of your electronics, you can hear a nearby TV. You can hear their AC. You can hear them holding a normal conversation. God forbid they are in an argument, having sex, or contending with a screaming baby!
There are ants covering the lawns, and there are spiders all over the stairwells (several of which have attempted entry to my home). My wife has been bitten three times by spiders. We have complained for months, but they do nothing about it. They say that they have a contract for pest control, but I have never seen anyone there. Nor do the bugs go away. In fact, they are getting worse daily.
Don't count on using that pool. They reserve the right to close it at will in the lease. More than that, while it is closed they feel no need to maintain it. The last two months have seen eight shades of green growing out of its water. I don't care if I'm not allowed to swim in it. That is a sanitation issue.
The grounds are unkept. The lawn is filled with patches of dead and dying grass. There are random patches of sand. Sections where shrubs are grown are overgrown. Weeds grow out at random, some bigger than the shrubbery, and that not to even mention the strange fungus that persists in spots.
The pet situation is by far the worst though. We paid $350 to allow us a small dog. The money is entirely forfit. It says in the lease that it goes toward "normal wear and tear" on the apartment, but that none of it will be put toward "ANY" damages caused by your pet. Read: If you need to replace the carpet, blinds, bleach the lenolium, Shampoo the carpet, or anything else... It will be charged above the pet depoist and your security deposit.
Even funnier though, is that they are no telling residents three days before rent is due that there will be a new pet fee each month. Isn't this raising of my rent in violation of the contract that I signed' They don't think so. Watch out. If these people decide that your motor bike is a nuisance, they can start charging you monthly rent for that to be there as well. Perhaps it will be the water bed you have. Whatever the case, this is telling me that I have to pay them more money each month or greatly change my lifestyle.
What is their reason' They say that the pet owners are not cleaning up after themselves. This may be true. However, it was already set down that there would be a twenty five dollar fee for not picking up after your pet. Moreover, there is good reason why a lot of people don't pick up after their dogs. The waste bins that they provide are constantly overflowing with dog crap, because they do not keep up with them. One rainstorm even sent the overflowing bags of crap on a nice ride of wind. The scatttered bags remained on the ground for nearly a week before they were picked up.
But wait! There's more. The dumpsters are not emptied with enough frequency. They are always full, and overflowing by the time the garbage trucks come. So after they leave, there is always at least several bags of trash laying around the dumpsters. There is broken glass scattered over the area on a regular bases and none of these things are addressed.
Other reviews mentioned that the lit parking was one great thing about this place. Maybe if you live on the first or third floor, but on the second it is nothing but a nuisance. The lights are beyond bright, and they are strategically located so that there is one next to every master bedroom window. I hope you have the ability to hang curtains... otherwise you are not sleeping.
The fitness center and laundery facilities... As well as everything else in the common areas is already in disrepair. The treadmill is falling apart. One of the washers is broken. There are nails all over the breezeway from the construction crew completing the structure. Not to mention the siding and railings that are falling apart.
And one last thing on my little rant here... Don't expect the maintainance to change all of that. For the price you are spending at a luxary complex, they repay you with some fly by night maintainance company that shouldn't be given the responsibility of looking after a dog house.
If you have any other option, take it. These apartments are not worth half of what they are asking for them, the office assistants aren't worth any of what they are paid, and management is either nonexistant or a complete joke. gkZ41df9CgXQPfm8K2A7
