I have lived at this apartment complex for almost two years. My lease runs out in May and I am unsure if i will be renewing or not. What I enjoy about the apartment is the layout and the grounds. A very pretty area and very convenient to anywhere you need to be. I like the fact that the porches aren't just wood planks with nails sticking out. Also, never have had a bug problem. however, there are a few things i do not enjoy here whatsoever.
1) my car has been broken into three times. when i spoke to office staff, they said they have a security guard which i have yet to see. Just recently we recieved a flier on our door saying that residents have reported "suspicious activity" and to call the Durham cops if we see anything. What in the world does that mean' I asked for a garage for free and they gave it to me instead for $20 a month. However, when a colleague of mine moved here, he got his garage free and pays $50.00 a less in rent a month for the same 2 bed 2 bath apartment.
2) speaking of office staff, there is very high turnover. The only one worth talking to is ---. The women they hire are always pretty oblivious and are never helpful. The maintenance crew are all very nice. And I'm not sure if the office staff doesn't communicate to them when we call or if they are a little slow, but it took them two months to replace a smoke detector in the master, and I called in the one in the second bedroom this past fall and they have yet to come and fix it and I'm really tired of calling over and over. But like I said, i think that is more the office staff then the maintenance crew because I love them!

4)My last complaint is not really their fault but it may be. I have lived in various apartment complexes for 10 years and I have NEVER had so much trouble sleeping. My upstairs neighbors are ridiculous and I swear they never go to sleep. They stomp ALL NIGHT. I have resorted to benedryl and ear plugs and that still doesn't help. So I mostly blame them. I get that people have kids and pets and I get that people have sex, and all that I can understand and let slide. But these people don't have kids or pets and they are always loud. On the other hand, the walls are so thin I can tell you when the guy up stairs is taking a piss. I can hear him in the shower. I can hear things that in every other apartment I have never heard.
Lastly, i referred my sister here and she signed a year lease. They were supposed to give me something for this which I never recieved and that was back in October. Honestly I'm not sure if I will be renewing or not. If the office is willing to negotiate the rent as this will be my third year renewing and if they give me a 3rd floor because I am NOT dealing with these people anymore I will definitely be inclined to stay.
