Southern Oaks at Davis Park

I have been a resident for six months and can't wait to get out of my lease! Some of the office girls are incredible rude, maintenance is very slow, and they decide to randomly start charging residents for things like garbage. We recently had a snow storm here, and the maintenence people have been hiding behind the car wash smoking rather than picking up a shovel and clearing the sidewalks. It's been three days now and they have not shoveled anything!! I slipped on the ice twice. They don't even throw salt down. The "business center" is also a joke. I went a few days ago to print out some applications and discovered (as usual), there was no paper in the printer. When I asked the office for some, I was given FOUR sheets of paper. I returned a few minutes later to ask for more and was rudely told that she was not supposed to provide the residents with paper, that we were supposed to bring our own paper to the business center when we wanted to print something!!! Seriously, how cheap can you be! And forget about sending a fax. It doesn't work. The gym is really nice, however there's a group of women that dominate it in the mornings and all bring their small children to run around the gym and climb on everything. I hate it here and can't wait for my lease to end. All of my friends I've made here feel the same way. The apartment quality is awful. It sounds like the girl upstairs is constantly dropping 700 pound dumbbells when she walks across the apartment.

Here's my two cents: I disagree; I think it is a pretty good place, and you have to realistically expect some apartment noise and adjustment when you live in apartments (living in close proximity to several hundred other people). It is true that there are some negatives, but you'll always have some negatives - no matter where you live.
The office staff is friendly, helpful, and great. Maintenance is very good, too. Landscaping is pleasant throughout. The gym offers nice equipment and several options so I find it pleasant (I have not encountered the mentioned issue).
I will admit that the so-called "Business Center" is a deceptive yet fancy term for 4 computers and a broken fax/printer, but there is no money in the budget to replace it so you can't print or fax any time soon. Mgmt just started charging for garbage but were too cowardly to even inform the residents (it just "appeared" on a water bill).
It is nice that animals are permitted in the complex. I will add that the dog park is a nice touch, but it badly needs some better quality fill (as opposed to the cheap mulch that sticks to fine or curly fur). Yes, some inconsiderate buffoons refuse to pick up after their dogs (mostly big dogs), and while mgmt shouldn't have to pick up after these residents, there should be a higher cleanliness standard that someone picks it up more often.
With all that being said, I still like it here. Additionally, I like the caliber of the residents; most are courteous and respectful. I also haven't found noise to be any issue. For the most part, it is a quiet complex. --End of My Two Cents--
