Not worth the Price - Horrible Service

I lived at the Alexan for two years... here's my thoughts..
1) Cockroach Paradise - They have a huge cockroach problem surrounding the apartment grounds and they nest in cracks in the stucco walls. Management does nothing when you report this to them... I couldn't leave my door or windows open during beautiful spring/summer days cause I'd find cockroaches trying to get in my apartment.
2) Horrible Customer Service - You would think if someone at the front desk signs for a package for someone then they'd notify the rightful owner that they have a package waiting for them. Not at Alexan North Hills. Their policy is that you should know that they have it by looking up the tracking number on the carrier's website.... like that helps when someone sends you a gift or something gets sent without tracking.
3) Horrible Maintenance Service - If you submit a maintenance request prepare to wait 3-7 days for them to show up. When they show up, they only half heartedly look into your problem. Our laundry machine would go crazy during a spin cycle and maintenance refused to do anything about it cause they were able to run 1 wash cycle with no clothes in it with no problems... we only got them to work on it after we showed them a video of what was going on. Very nice... Oh also, when we moved in we notified them of nasty looking discoloration on all the fixtures.. their solution to resolving this was to mark it on our move in summary... they had no intentions of correcting it or any of the problems we found at move in.. theres still a chuck missing from the dry wall that the previous owners had taken out when they moved in... but its ok cause its listed in the summary....
4) Broken Gates/Elevator - There are two gates and two elevators at Alexan North Hills... almost every weekend someone crashes into one of the exit gates making it inoperable. Also, most of the time one of the elevators is being "reserved" or out of service.
5) Pool Hours - You would think that at an adult living facility, the pool would at least be open until the sun goes down. However, at the Alexan the pool closes at 8pm... there's almost a whole other hour of daylight afterwards during the summer.
6) Convenience no more after 2009 - The only thing they have going for them is the convenience of being right next to a Harris Teeter and the North Hills Shopping center. But next year, the Harris Teeter is moving across Six Forks Rd. negating most of the convenience.

We are very sorry to hear that your stay at Alexan North Hills has not been pleasant. It is our goal to to provide every resident with a great living experience.
Although today one of the two exit gates has a broken wheel, it is the first time this gate has been broken in over 12 months. It is possible that something is wrong with your remote, so please feel free to bring it in to the office to have it replaced.
The freight elevator is reservable for move-ins and move-outs, simular to when you moved in, but we do not allow moves to start prior to 9 a.m. and they must end by 6 p.m. If you are needing the elevator between these hours you can use the other elevator or contact our office and we will make arrangements to send the elevator to your floor.
As is the practice in Raleigh, a pool cannot be open after dark unless designated as an evening pool. This is per the county code.
The Palmetto bugs that you refer to, live in the trees that line our property, are indiginous to this area, they are also known as waterbugs. They typically prefer the outdoors as opposed to coming into your home. We do have the exterior of our property sprayed on a regular basis and will provide pest control on the interior of your apartment upon request.
The package acceptenance service that our office offers is optional and meant to be a convenience to our guests. The requirement to participate in this service is that the delivery company is responsible for notifying the resident about the package delivery, as stated in the lease. They can notify you by placing a note on your mailbox,on your door or leave a message on your phone. We inform every delivery company of this and they assure us that they have left the proper notification. Our office accepts over 50 packages per day, notification of each on a daily basis would be a near impossibility, as with any other apartment community. We do however send weekly notifications of packages that are in our office and stay open until 7:30 p.m. on the weekdays to allow for convenient pick-up.
The Harris Teeter will be relocating across the street to become the first 24 hour Harris Teeter in Raleigh, we are very excited. Although, it will not be quite as convenient as it is currently, there is a cart service that goes through all of the North Hills shopping areas and they will be able to drop you off and pick you up, this service is free.
Please let me know of any issues you have had in getting a repair completed in your apartment as this is not the norm for our maintenance team. I will make every effort to have any issue resolved and in a timely manner.
I look forward to the opportunity to change your opinion of our community. My name is Misti and I am the Manager. I am hopeful to hear from you and provide you with a better if not the best living experience.
Thank you for providing us with feedback so that we may continue to improve our service to our guests.

The gate has most certainly been broken more than once in the last 12 months. If the gate is bent, broken or ajar, it is not a matter of the remote. Please do not insult my intelligence.
"As is the practice in Raleigh, a pool cannot be open after dark unless designated as an evening pool."
8pm is not "after dark" in the summer.

Call them what you want. At night, they can be found crawling all over the exterior of the building.

That is great and all and looks good on paper. However, you've been notified many times of the carriers being notorious for not leaving notice but again you pass the blame on to the carrier and refuse to accept any responsibility for accepting a package that is not yours and never making sure it gets to the owner. Please don't pass off the responsibility to the carriers. You sign for the package and it is therefore your responsibility to make sure it gets to the owners. I've lived in many apt facilities in the past. All were able to handle notifying tenants when they received a package for them. I'm sure you can manage as well.

Great cause it sure is more convenient to wait for a shuttle than to just hop in your car and drive across the street. Don??t kid yourself. It doesn??t even come close to being able to walk downstairs and get some groceries no matter how much you hype this "cart service".

Based on other reviews I??ve found online, what you say is again not true. Countless others have had the same experiences and problems with your maintenance team.

I have to give my opinions of this posting, mainly because I've posted before as anon and feel like my opinion can be appreciated. I love living here, I really do, it's one of the nicest rentals I've ever lived in, but I am more appauled by the manager's response than I am the posting. Give me a break..."its the responsiblity of the carrier to alert the receiver?" Um...I pay for YOU to do this. This might be North Hills, I might pay over $1,200 to live here, but your snooty attitude of me being thankful for me paying you over a 1/2 of my bring home salary is not needed.
Added note: The author of this article is stupid, please read their comments about bugs and maintenance. The maintenance here is fantastic and the bugs, well I've never seen one, but then again, I'm not dirty. Last, the pool has been closed more often than open during my tenure and hey, it's fun having sex in the showers down there anyway with noone around!
