I just moved out of a dump over in Durham and I ended up in a place that has the same problems as I had in the old place, now I just get charged double the rent for it.
Negatives:
This is a NOISY place. Period. You usually wont hear music or Televisions from neighbors but you will banging and pounding if you have people above you or on the sides of you and people running up and down the stairs at all hours of the night is VERY annoying.
When I moved in, I specifically asked if this place had roaches because I CAN NOT and WILL NOT deal with roaches and I was specifically told NO it did not. Well, its only April and Ive seen 2 so far...Ive only been here for a month.
Parking is an utter, complete, absolute and total nightmare. The spaces are way to narrow, theres no reserved spaces, people are NOT careful in the parking lots so car doors get scratched and dinged (hasnt happened to me, but Ive seen it actually happen to others before.)
You would think if youre paying about 800 bucks for an apartment, you wouldnt have people who live around you who seem to think they live in the projects, however, here you do. This place is turning GHETTO. Ive only been here a month, but I can already see it slowly turning into the projects. People sit in the parking lot playing loud rap music, kids running around unsupervised just doing whatever they want, screaming, yelling, running up and down the stairs, its absolutely ridiculous. I could have stayed in a Durham dump for this. Cant go to the pool because of unsupervised brats acting up, kids invading the gym even though theyre not supposed to be there, clubhouse overrun by unsupervised kids with no home training. Its Ridiculous.
Theres no security to speak of. They claim the roads in the complex are 'private' but who really enforces that'
The plumbing is GOD AWFUL. Low flow toilets that clog when you look at them funny, Showers that give you NO water pressure, Sinks that give you little more than a drip when you turn them on full blast. Awful.
Positives:
I have never, and I mean NEVER seen more helpful staff than the people who work in this office. They will do whatever they can to help you out when you need something.
If you need something fixed, its done in a timely manner, no matter how 'small' it seems to be.
This place is really well lit. That's both a good thing and a bad thing. The lights are RIGHT next to your bedroom windows (which are right next to your front door) so its more or less safe but you also get a congregation of all kinds of flying bugs right in front of your door and you NEED dark curtains if you want to sleep...ever.
I dont know...this place seems to be in the transition phase from a nice place to be into the ghetto. Soon as my lease is up, I'm out of here...too bad thats 11 months away (and theres NO early release clause in your lease!!!), I just hope Im gone before this place turns completely into the projects.

My name is Chris Jones and I am the Community Manager of Auston Grove Apartments. I am not the type of person that argues with all negative comments because everyone has the right to their opinion. However, I must take issue with the way people throw the word ghetto around. I have worked in places that had drive by shootings in the middle of the day, drug deals on every corner, every other car in the parking lot on blocks, maintenance afraid to go in apartments alone, and people attacking the staff. Just because people don't always follow the rules or are loud or don't always act like you think they should certainly doesn't mean a place is ghetto. I don't think you have a true understanding of what a ghetto is. You mention that you can't go to the pool because it is overrun by kids and you have only been here a month, but the pool isn't even open yet. The swimming season starts in a few weeks. You say the clubhouse is overrun with unsupervised kids. I am in the clubhouse from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm and have no idea what you are talking about. I live in a house in a nice neighborhood, but guess what, I have neighbors that play loud music and children are playing and running in the street. Whenever I visit friends in their neighborhood, there are children playing everywhere. I don't think that makes our areas ghettos. I am not sure what a person expects when they move into an apartment with 300 plus apartment homes housing over 1000 people. Everyone doesn't follow all the rules, not make noise, not park funny or do things they shouldn't. They don't in home neighborhoods either. I don't mean to call out your response, but saying I have seen the community turn into a ghetto in the ONE month you have lived here is an unfair statement. I think we do a pretty good job keeping the community nice but you can't please everyone. Notice the below post where a gentleman calls us petty becasue we send notices about cleaning up after pets, driving to fast, not leaving trash out and double parking. You claim the place is out of control and he complains we are to tough on people. Seems to be a no win situation. As far as issues in the apartment such as low water pressure and things of that nature, if you will bring to the attention of the office, we can assist you.
