Funny thing about Greg..

I find it quite amusing that two people have included the desk clerk "Greg" in their ratings, and it is what has made me decide to write my own rating. First of all, about Greg:

I am a very outgoing and talkative person myself, so at first I was quite entertained by Greg?s "enthusiasm". However, by the time we were closing up our visit (about 45 minutes) I was a bit overwhelmed by him! I mean, this guy was SPEEDING. On our way out, we were kidding between ourselves that this guy was on some kind of stimulant! Anyway, he was nice enough and had made the rental decisions extremely easy, by waiving the admin fee ($100) and only making us fill out one application.

We had not set a move-in date, I had told Greg that we would call and let him know what day we would like to start moving (this was about Dec. 28, 2003).

On Jan. 5, 2004 I called Greg at 10 am to request a move-in date of Jan. 17. He remembered me, and understood that we would not actually be "occupying" the apartment until around the 26th. Since we were planning to move in over this 2 week period, he graciously, and of his own free will without any suggestion on my part, offered to let us "pick up the keys" on the afternoon of the 16th and not actually begin the lease until the 26th. Well, I was completely blown away, everything had been almost too good to be true, and this just took the cake. With the January move-in special ($200 off first month?s rent) we wouldn?t have to pay a cent for January, so said Greg.

My finace and I were elated and eagerly anticipating January 16th. The day arrived and I went in to work early so I could leave at 2:30 and get a jump on the rest of the day. I arrived at Autumn River at precisely 3 pm to find a "Will Return At.." sign on the front door set for 3:30. I was a little disappointed, but understood the nature of business, so I waited patiently. About 3:45 a large SUV pulled up and Greg hopped out with a fast food drink in his hand, dawdled a minute in conversation, then went into the building. Of course I promptly followed, having sat in my truck for 45 minutes, and made my way into the office.

I waited for him to check his voicemails and then giddily presented myself to Greg, quite expecting him to remember me again, however he only said to me "Can I help you'"

I responded by saying that he had told me to pick up keys this afternoon. Greg looked confused and said, "and your move-in date is..'" To which I replied "January 17th.. ", and proceeded to repeat our earlier conversation. Greg then began to look a bit flustered, shuffled through some papers and somewhat absently said: "I don?t even remember talking to you.." This was quite astonishing to me because of our involved and friendly conversation just 12 days earlier. I couldn?t help to think of my fiance and I joking about Greg being on drugs! I sincerely got the impression that this guy had no clue who I was!

So, he gave me keys and told me to come in Saturday to sign the lease. To put an end to this already too-long story, Saturday we came in to sign the lease, however Greg, with whom we?d made all these "special" arrangements, was not present.

As you can imagine, the young woman was quite clueless as to why the admin fee had been waived, and as you may have forseen, our lease was set to begin on January 17th, not 26th. So, a pro-rated amount we were required to pay, along with the more-than-fair $100 security deposit. We were not displeased at all, however. An interesting sidenote: as we were walking in to sign the lease, Greg drove by, and into the complex, without so much as a nod as he looked past us. It wouldn?t be so strange had he not been so friendly with us and seemed so acquainted! (There are even MORE Greg incidents, but out of mercy I will stop here!!)

Aside from the strange Greg, our experience here has been just fantastic. We love our apartment, which is a 2 bedroom with attached, down-stairs garage. I love the unusually high ceilings, the master bathroom is enormous, with a garden tub and double sinks. Each bedroom has its own attached bathroom, and the bathrooms even have medicine cabinets! Also, the bathrooms and kitchen are actually TILED, with real ceramic tiles, which makes cleaning a snap! The laundry room is walk-in. The balcony is private and hardwood, actually the entire complex is brick and hardwood, no siding, which decreases our renter?s insurance premium. You can?t beat the location, there are several shopping centers within a mile, and it?s far enough off the awful Capital Boulevard. All of the cabinets in this apartment are coated with a plastic finish, which is another cleaning bonus. We have wireless internet access for the laptop, as well as cable for the desktops. It is quiet and there seem to be several tenents within our age range (25 - 30). The garage is also huge, about 30 ft deep, and houses my fiance?s car and hockey equiptment, stored furnature and boxes, both our bikes - with plenty of room to spare. We moved here from Caveness Farms, and are very pleased with our decision. I?m not sure what year these apartments were built, but they have a bit of an "older" feel to them, which is NOT bad by any means! Another thing I consider a bonus is Autumn River?s handling of mail packages (which I get a lot of); the FedEx/UPS/USPS Courier attempts to directly deliver the package to you, and if you are not at home, the package is taken to the office where it is stored in a locked room and a "Notice of Delivery" is left in your mailbox. This is a very convenient system!

All-in-all we couldn?t be happier with our decision to move here. As time passes and we become more familiar with this place, I will try to return and update my opinion of Autumn River Apartments.

It is my candid hope that someday Greg will happen upon these reviews. I wonder if he?ll remember me then.. :o)
