My husband and I have lived in North Raleigh for nearly 20 years. Recently we decided to put our home on the market. We were surprised when our home sold in just 5 days (the market is so hot right now). In looking for our next home, we were not finding the right house immediately and it came time to make the decision - either we settle on a home that did not have our must-have items, or we go into a rental for a short time and wait for the house to come on the market. Neither option was great for us, but we ultimately decided that we were willing to wait for the right house, since we expected to be in it for at least 10 years, and if we could find an apartment community that would allow us to sign a 3-month lease, accepted pets, had a garage so we could store all of our stuff, and had connections for our washer/dryer inside the unit, we would do it. Sounds like a lot, I know, but these things we had to have.

Autumn River offered all of this and more. When we called, they had available a 3-bdrm/2-bath on the first floor, with an attached garage. They accepted our dog ($10 per month refundable deposit) and offered helpful advice to make our move easier. We moved in on 3/10/07 and were so grateful for the attached garage (which is stacked from floor to ceiling, front to back with the contents of our home). The one thing that really surprised us was how quiet it was. Day or night, inside or outside, it is very quiet. Occasionally when I am in the kitchen, I can hear someone walking down the exterior stairs (we have 2nd and 3rd floor neighbors), but that is our only sign that anyone else lives there!

We are so glad we were patient and did not settle for a house that was just "OK." By waiting a couple of weeks, we found two "perfect" houses that had all of the items we were looking for. We signed a contract on one and will close on it in early May. Our plan is to move out by the end of May. Although we will have only lived here for 9-10 weeks, that was all we needed for our situation.
