Pretty good, so far...

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2003
We just moved in within the last month, and overall we're pleased so far.
Good things:
- The units are very nice, 9 foot ceilings, not the usual "apartment white" paint jobs, some crown and chair moldings enhance the look.
- The trash area is tastefully camouflaged with a wooden structure that is virtually unnoticeable, and is a compactor unit, instead of the typical 2 or three dumpsters that are constantly over flowing. This is big point for me, as we live within viewing distance of this area.
- Grounds are well maintained, both landscape and buildings (of course, everything is reasonably new, too). The community itself is very nice looking, in my opinion.
- 1 maintenance issue with the heat on the day we moved in, we reported to the maintenance guy on our way out to work the next morning. I was sure we were going to have to go to the office and fill out ?the form?, but when we came home the problem was fixed and there was a note from the maintenance guy indicating what had been fixed. Excellent.
Bad things:
- Leasing agents seem less than adept. Didn?t put us on the list for a garage as we requested. Didn?t follow up with us on several items. Frequently a ?call me on Monday? type approach? well, you know what' I?m the customer, you make yourself a note, and call ME on Monday. How about that'
Other notes:
- I have yet to observe any of the negative behaviors noted by people in earlier reviews, but it is winter, and people tend to stay inside, so we?ll have to wait and see.
- As far as the person who said on 11/2002 ?we want to move but are afraid that we?ll have to pay outrageous fees to get out of the lease??, try reading your lease. This is the first lease I?ve experienced that basically had a ?buy out?, 2 months rent. Much cheaper than what is standard fare which is ?you're responsible for the rent until we re-rent or the end of your lease.? And of course, why would they have any incentive to try to re-rent if you?re already on the hook for it. So, bottom line, I think Barrington has a fair policy for this.
