Worst experience EVER!

I just read a former tennant's review, and I was shocked to learn of our similar experience with Barrington Place. The complex was great when it was under different management the first year I lived there. But, when GCI took over, rates immediately and contiously went up, the free Brinks security coverage installed in each unit was no longer free, and the atmosphere in the complex went down hill dramatically.
By the start of my third year there, I was leasing month to month while looking for a new place to live. In addition to the rate hike, I was also unhappy because my car had been vandalized (the headlights were broken out), my neighbors were unruly, I could never find a parking spot, and there appeared to be drug activity in a nearby unit. I was also came home from time to time one month to find that someone had been in my apartment. I'd find closet doors open or a light off that I had left on, etc. It happened about 3 times, and each time I'd go immediately to the leasing office and ask if they had been inside my apartment. They said no, and told me they'd always leave a note if they had come in. As a single woman, obviously I was terrified that someone had gotten into my home. Their only response was to tell me I'd probably given my key out to someone (which I knew I hadn't), since there was no damage to the door. They then said they would charge me $100 to replace the lock. Weeks later I found out that there had been a small leak in the unit below me, and the maintanence guy and various contractors had come into my apartment a few times during the repair process. I had been worried for nothing, and the Barrington Place staff never even apologized for scaring me to death.
But the worst came in the end. My car was backed into while parked in a space directly across from the leasing office. It happened in broad daylight while the office was open, and the leasing staff wouldn't even come outside when the police arrived to take a report. The entire staff seemed unconcerned with the incident, and did nothing to assist in finding out who had done it. Then, weeks later when I was finally moving out, they refused to do a walk through with me to check for damages. I thought that was strange, but since I had kept the place exceptionally clean during my time there, I was confident that I would get my security deposit back in the mail. My unit looked brand new when I left it, as every inch of the place had been thoroughly detailed. But, a month after moving out I received a bill for $600 stating that they had to replace the carpet, the bathroom flooring, and a set of blinds. When I contacted the leasing office about my outragious bill, the manager offered to pay half of the cost since I had lived there for so long. I then called the corporate office to verify this policy and to file a complaint. I spoke with the most rude "professional" I have ever encountered. She offered no sympathy or assistance, and simply told me that if I didn't pay the remaining damages, I would be taken to court. I went on to explain to her how I had referred 3 seperate people to Barrington Place over the course of living there and that each of the tennants I referred took out at least a year-long lease. I had never been thanked, given a referal bonus, or any other token of appreciation. And yet, when I moved out, I was hit with a ridiculous bill. She had no further response.
In the end, I felt totally scammed. I had spent THOUSANDS of dollars to live there, and left angered and regretful. I ended up paying the remaining $300 in damages, just to be done with them. To this day, I would NEVER even reccommend Barrington Place or any other GCI property to my worst enemy! The units may look nice on the inside, but don't be fooled...

Sca6262, I live at Barrington Place too, and I must say that as unhappy as I've been there, I have not had a roach problem. The apartments are very clean and well-exterminated. You may also want to check-out Muirfield Village. I posted an online question about whether they have roaches, and got emphatic responses from 4 different tenants that they do NOT have roaches. Plus, I toured the property and like it a lot. The floor plan is adorable, and the office person was professional and very friendly. It most likely will become my next home.
