I lived at BP for a year. I was an excellent tenant- no complaints from me or about me. This despite the fact that there was a drug dealer living next door, constant noise from the parking lot (drunk people out there yelling and screaming at all hours), abandoned vehicles taking up MUCH NEEDED parking spaces, no response from maintenance staff when repair requests were submitted etc...
I should have never moved in, but it was my first time renting by myself (without roommates) and I was naive. I couple days before I was to move in, I stopped by to make sure everything was ready to go. The carpet was absolutely filthy. There was a giant stain in the middle of the living room, and smaller stains throughout. Neighbors later told me that the previous tenant had lived there since the place was built and had tons of house plants that leaked all over the place. I told the staff that something would need to be done before I moved in, and I figured they'd replace the carpet. Instead, they just cleaned it. It got the stains out... for a while. Over the course of the year, however, those stains started showing back up. I was going to clean the carpet, but figured I was moving anyway and it wasn't my responsibility to clean up stains that were there when I moved in.
The day after I moved in, I realized I didn't have the pool tag you're supposed to use to "prove" you're a tenant when you go to the pool. It's just a little yellow tag with a safety pin glued on so that you can keep it on your towel etc. I went to the office and told them I didn't have one... The manager was extremely rude and told me I'd have to pay $75 for a new one!!! She basically said I was lying. There was no way I was paying for a new one, so I did without one for about 10 months. I finally asked the only helpful staff member there- Anita- for a new one, and she gave me one, no problem.
The maintenance staff is horrible. They take WEEKS to show up after a request is submitted. When they do finally show, they usually cause more damage than there already was! The faucet on my kitchen sink leaked ridiculous amounts of water- they came and inspected it, supposedly ordered parts, and never came back. The water in my shower stopped heating up properly- they did nothing but turn the water heater up which just ended up costing me more in utilities! Not only that, but they dinged up the walls while they were there. My ceiling fan broke just in time for Summer- they took MONTHS to replace it, leaving me with no fan for the hottest months of the year. To top it all off, one of them was a real creep. He would show up at my door for no reason and pretend like he accidentally went to the wrong apartment- he lives and works there, he knows which apartment is which! He also went so far as to tell me that "from behind" I look like someone he knows, so I shouldn't be offended if he yells gross comments at me. GROSS. I'm not the type of person to cause trouble, so I never reported this stuff. STUPID ME.
I gave them ample notice when I left... Moved out early... Turned my keys in on time. I called the guy who works in the office and asked him what their policy was about moving out. Did I need to patch up (nail) holes in the walls' Did I need to clean the carpet' He told me "don't worry about it"!! He said they usually replace the carpet anyway, and at the very least they'll clean it for me. No big deal. He also told me I shouldn't worry about doing the walk-through... He just kept telling me not to worry about it and that it really wasn't a big deal. WHAT A LIAR. After almost a month had gone by and I hadn't received my deposit back, I called and spoke to him again. I specifically asked him if everything was OK with my walk-through... He said he was sure it was fine and that corporate would send me a check for my deposit (minus final water bill). A few days later I got a bill for $500!!! They said they had to replace the carpet and the linoleum in the bathroom! That cheap stuff was over 6 years old- it was time for it to be replaced. Not my problem!! There is no way I'm paying them a dime....... I'll see them in court!

Sounds like you should have said something the whole time. Your carpet, the comments, "drug dealer" partying etc. That is your own fault. But that is your fault about the carpet. You should have said something about it before you moved out. Have you ever heard of the police? They can handle stuff like drugs and partiers. I have lived here for almost 2 years and haven't had any problems with anyone. That gentleman in the office has been very helpful to me and acutally cares about people.

I wasn't scared for my life or anything- it was just shady and annoying that they let such weirdos live there. I think the police have better things to do than respond my gripes about loud noise in the parking lot- I'm not going to waste their time over stuff they really can't do anything about.
As far as the carpets go- YEAH I SHOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING. That's why I wrote this- so other people won't be so trusting!
The new guy in the office IS nice, that's why I believed him and didn't think he'd screw me over.
I didn't have major problems until I moved out. I hope if you move it it goes smoother.
