First let me say that I really loved the layout of my apartment, and that's about it. The "Pet Area" is very small and not necessarily a place that I wanted to take my pets. The courtyard area is OFF LIMITS to anything with 4 legs--or you'll get fined $25. During my stay of 1.5 years, at least 3 water lines burst on different occasions--this means FLOODING, vacating your entire apartment (furniture and all), and noisy fans in the halls and in your apartment until the carpet dried (we're talking days).
You must pay a $500 "pet fee" when you move in--KEEP IN MIND: this does NOT cover ANY damage that your pets may cause. When I asked the property manager about this when I moved out, I was told the $500 "is for the PRIVILEGE of having your pet in the Beckanna". I am now having to pay for new carpet, and after readining another post, I see that it doesn't have anything to do with the carpet, just the lack of people wanting to rent at this place. I was semi-pleased with management for a while, but my move out ordeal with the carpet has given me a bad last impression, not to mention that the property manager snidely told me that my apartment "smelled like dog". My dogs were actually out of the apartment for 2 months prior to her doing the last walk through and I had even shampooed the carpet. They had planned on replacing the carpet no matter what. And I kept my apartment clean and tidy, there is no way it "smelled like dog". I did not appreciate her condescending manner in saying that. That is unprofessional. We even cleaned every single slat in the blinds before I moved out! On the note of pets, there are "breed restrictions": no pitbulls, rottweilers, dobermans, or otherwise Dangerous Breeds. They ARE allowing these types of dogs to move in, despite the restrictions, which in my opinion is a breech of contract! If I cannot have a pit bull, neither should anyone else (just an example, I do not own one).
As for noise, I could hear everything in the apartments above and beside me--doors creaking as they were closed, a dog's tail wagging and hitting the floor, a chair creaking when someone sat down in it in the apartment above me, the man's TV next door to me, people's ENTIRE conversations outside of my apartment; not to mention that on several occasions I calle dthe police because people were up late partying on a Thursday night PAST the noise ordinance of 10pm (they were actually playing the drums at 1am). Not to mention, they allowed him to smoke in his apartment, which made my apartment smell like cigarette smoke. The AC/heat unit were a NIGHTMARE: they are LOUD, inefficient, and you cna't even enjoy a tv show without having to constantly adjust the volume due to the unit cutting on and off. The windows don't help amtters any, as they are REALLY drafty and inefficient. They hot air gets in in the summer, cold air in in the winter. And forget baking in the summer, your entire apartment turns into a sweatbox unless you have the AC on high. Anoter pet peeve of mine was the shower. While the bathroom is really nice, you are limited to about an 8 minute shower, as the hot water tank is only 35 gallons. The back side of the building by the dumpsters is VERY unsafe, as there is basically no lighting back there.
I should've known when I moved in that I wouldn't like this place, the girl who checked me in was completely rude and acted as if I was bothering her--I assume she has since been fired as she is no longer there. My advice is to stay away from the Beckanna if you want an energy efficient apartment, a genuine environment, and no surp[rising carpet replacements because they can't get tennants in! I have to say, though, the maintenance man and lady are nice...he can be a little gruff but I thought he was great, and she is amazingly sweet.

I agree completely. The awful lady in the office is megan and she is a total gossip and is horrible to everyone. These apartments are incredibly loud. Small and overpriced.
