no one answers the phone-no one in the office

I signed a lease and had to give 2 months notice of leaving the apartment at the end of the lease otherwise the management would automatically renew the rental. I complied with these terms and left at the end of the lease. Now, more than 3 months later I have been informed that I am liable to pay a sum well in excess of $1000! (additional rent for allegedly not giving written notice). There is never anyone in the office - rent and other communications have to be 'posted' through a small slit in the door. No acknowledge of letters is ever made or receipts given. Telephone calls are rarely answered and the caller is not given the opportunity of leaving a message. I have never owed money in my life and the managements inefficiency is not my problem - so don't make it yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
