Mixed feelings about Camden

My husband and I have lived in this complex since last summer (2006). The apartments themselves are very beautiful, not necessarily the most efficient layout but it will do... much newer and prettier than other apartments both of us have had in the past (although luxury apartments have not always been the thing and affordable). Maintenance and leasing office staff could be more desirable to deal with though. I remember when I first moved in, the leasing agent I was dealing with bragged about the low turnover Camden had (they recently took over this complex)... that person is not with this complex anymore. Actually, the entire staff is different from what was there last summer, except maybe the manager. Hard to know since I don't think I have formally met her in person. I was supposed to receive a copy of my lease from them after she signed it but for some reason that never happened which is an event that has never happened to me in my 10 years of apartment renting in different regions across the country. We definitely got a deal when we moved in which let me justify the mandatory cable although I still do not think it's right for them to demand I have cable and pay for it... we wanted DirecTV but could not justify the cost of having both. I don't see a kid issue but that may just be my building... I've heard different buildings have different stigmas. Overall, I like the apartment but can not trust the personnel - they do seem quite detached and its usually difficult to get serviced anyway. Thank God we are leaving for our new house! All I can say is rent here with caution and be ready to be diligent when you have service needs.
Revise: I do not recommend this complex purely on customer service. To top everything, there have been at least two car accidents near my apartment since I have been here, one in which a person died, and there was no acknowledgment from management regarding these incidents and the importance of safety.

I also moved in last summer and definitely agree with most of what you said, especially about the staff (I think only one person remains from last summer - I have never met the manager either, but I think it's a different person than a year ago). The mandatory cable and some of the water/sewer/trash/recycling charges are questionable. The fact that there isn't any recycling on site other than cardboard is rather sad, as most other complexes have receptacles for glass and plastic. Not to mention that you don't really get a 12-month lease, but an 11 month, 3 week lease.
