Ok, so I often read these and think that it would be wonderful to get some detail, So with that being said - I'm going to give you guys some detail.
Background
I started off living in Charlotte, in another Camden Property, this place was classy, well maintained, and in general a great experience. I got a job about 3.5 years ago to move up to Raleigh. I jumped at the change to transfer my lease and move into another Camden Property.
I moved in June 2006, The apartments looked beautiful. Upon seeing them I instantly felt like I was 'home'. I noticed they did not have assigned parking (which I actually liked, because well what if I had company over). I moved in. Life was great.
Sometime around January 2008, I noticed the apartment was on a steady decline, the whole place just seemed to be unkempt. Not the grounds mind you - the lawn care people were more than happy to mow the grass 5x a week (always starting at 8am). But with the inside of the apartments, Items would break, and not be replaced, and in general the quality of the workmanship within the apartment was well, low/below standards. I noticed that a ton of people that were parking in the apartment complex actually did not live there. They lived next door, in the townhomes and would park in our spots, and then walk through the woods to there homes. It became harder and harder to get a parking spot.
Fast Forward to Present day - August 28, 2009. Ok, Lets list the problems I have with this place.
1 - Pets (They say they have breed restrictions, they are selective)
2 - Apartment Staff are all but useless
3 - Parking
4 - Security
5 - Neighbors and to be honest the quality of the neighbors.
Ok, so let me elaborate on each of these (I will say that pets will have two places, one in the front, and one with the neighbors).
1 - Pets - They say they have breed restrictions, I see more pit-bulls walking around here than anywhere else (I personally have no problems with pit-bulls, I just think it is stupid to say you have a pet policy - when you don't.).
2 - Apartment Staff, these guys are useless, there are 2-3 people who are good, however the apartment MANAGER (JESSICA) is a complete and utter joke. I've had more problems that I've had to call the apartment about, and the staff seem to want to help, until JESSICA gets involved, she's rude, unresponsive, and combative. I've called the corporate office (Not the district manager, but the CORPORATE office in TEXAS before, to try to get a problem resolved).
3. Parking - Parking is now a joke, I have to park in the dimly lit far reaches to get to my apartment, that's fine, I'm a grown man, however my girlfriend is 5'4, and with the shady nature this place has taken, she does not walk to her car without pepper spray.
4. Security - How do I start, well lets just say my neighbors has had her house broken into 2x, and had handle it on there own. The apartment complex took no action to help increase security, or any sense of safety (outside from the standard letter).
It gets better, my car has been broken into here. Most likely some punk kids, but still, it happened.
5. Neighbors - Ok, here I go on my soap box. I moved here because it was suppose to be a quiet respectful and professional neighborhood. It was all of that when I moved in. I don't know if it's due to economy, the recession, or what. but the standard of living here has gone so far down it is pathetic.
I know for a fact that at least 3 residents are drug dealers, I see the cops here constantly, it's less than a fun place to live.
I have two wonderful examples. But let me make sure to say this now. I'm a 29year old, white male. I'm not racist, not sexist, nor any other 'ists' that you can think of. I pretty much dislike everyone equally :).
This place has people ranging from the super ghetto, to the super redneck. I think both 'types' of people are annoying. Now I don't judge based on appearance, I judge based on actions. That being said, here are a couple of those actions.
1. My neighbor was cleaning out a closet in his kids bedroom. He had the windows open. A kid is walking down the parking lot (happens constantly, nothing out of the ordinary there). The kid see's the neighbors window open, and walks over to it, my neighbor is in the bedroom, and looking out the window. The guy that was in the parking lot, see's my neighbor looking back at him. My neighbor just stands at his window and looks at the guy. This kid (he was maybe 15-18) starts talking crap. Trying to start a fight, saying my neighbor was eye-balling him.
This escalated, the kid just had some attitude. The kid eventually threatened to harm not only the neighbor, but the neighbors kids (2 young kids). We called the cops, the jerk left.
Example #2. I know you can't control your neighbors, but i've lived here for 3 years. Never had a huge problem with a neighbor. I understand walls are thin, etc. But still, you be respectful, and it's all fine.
This neighbor moves in. While he is moving in, he is eating a piece of chicken. He finishes it, and instead of throwing it in the trash, instantly throws it in the bushes saying (Well, I had no where to throw the chicken bone). I'm instantly appalled.
That very same weekend. Evidently he has a party (welcome to your new home, lets piss off your neighbors). I'm not talking a little party - In a 1br apartment, he had at least 10-15 people. Back and forth above me all night. Out on the sliding glass door, yelling at anything with a ------ that walked by. Very classy indeed.
Then on week 2 of him living here, he gets a puppy - a beautiful pit-bull. Evidently he does not want to keep the pit inside, so it stays on his balcony. where it proceeds to pee, constantly. Down onto my balcony - onto my electric grill, and everything else on my patio. This goes on for 4 days before we figure out what it is.
That was the straw that broke my back. I called the apartment, demanded to be let out of my lease and to get the hell out of here.
I'm leaving, never coming back and so happy to be gone.
HONESTLY DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE OF LIVING HERE!!!!
