There's good and there's bad, but overall it's a good place to live

First off the good. The apartments are attractive, with high ceilings, interesting layouts, fireplaces, and balconies for every unit. Attractive Holly, Myrtles, pines and Nandina accent the buildings which are a mixture of Masonite siding and brick that gives a very woody feel.
Proximity to Brier Creek shopping center, the airport and Umstead park are all real treats. You're only a few miles from 540, and while Glenwood can be congested, it's a straight shot into downtown and a reasonable night life. There's noise, but most of the apartments seem to be taken up by professionals or first time families and couples. The management staff is most helpful during move in, but they make a concerted effort to make events available, even if they can't invest a whole lot more into the fitness center or add more facilities.

The bad seems to stem from Raleigh's own growing pains. The apartments are as expensive as rental houses, but proximity to RTP is a big factor. Some neighbors seem to have 3 if not 6 adults crammed into small apartments, and these extra tenants make for more cars in the parking lot. There are enough spaces, but you will probably park in the visitors spots if you don't get off from work before 4:00. There are a lot of dogs and despite signs, there's a massive amount of dog waste left on the street and grass so watch where you step--recently the apartment staff appear to have been cleaning this up, which is a big plus. There's occasionally a night when howling sets the entire complex of dogs off, but the high ceilings and some curtains on the windows helps to dampen the sound.

With three stories of apartments in every building and a lot of over crowding in the individual units, the chance for conflict with neighbors increases geometrically--management hates to be in this situation and finds that usually they have to side with the complaint without exception or excuse, so if you end up in a fight with your neighbor here it serves you well to be the loudest and first squeaky wheel before all of the concessions are determined to be out of your pocket. What you can and can't have on your porch becomes an issue. Due to a lot of 2 income families, there are several groups of latch key kids. They're harmless, but you can occasionally expect to have to replace tire valve covers that have been swiped, or you may find there are a lot of toys, diapers, drink boxes and other things in the common areas or near the cars. Be very careful driving in and around the parking lot! There are a lot of nails, as many of the men and women here are independent contractors and nails and screws abound in the lot.

All that aside, it's not a terrible place to live, and if you're just looking for a place to spend 12-36 months while you save up for a house it's a good place to settle in and get started.
