Great location; build a relationship with the office.

I've lived in Glenwood Gardens for eighteen months now and can honestly say that the complex is a good bargain for the money you pay to be in such a central location (Cameron Village is less than 5 minutes away, as is Crabtree Valley Mall.
The complex is back-to-back with a country club for those of you who might wish to find part-time employment there, and the stream in the back occasionally has golf balls in it along with the fish.
Sometimes you can sit back there and forget you're even in the city.) with such good parking.
That said, I would caution everyone who applies here to be careful that your income is three times your rent.
The apartments were built in the 60's and are not energy efficient; if you want to be warm in the winter and cool in the summer, you will have to up your energy bill.
Also pay attention to the vents in your apartment if you want one room to be unaffected by the central air system.
They open and close and can cut your costs by cutting one area of the apartment off.
Generally the neighbors are nice, if transient.
We've had a number of students, families, and recent grads that move in for a little while and then move out.
There was one guy who had an entire posse of motocycling friends who would gather outside nightly and revv their engines, but I spent a lot of time outside gardening and got to know him well enough to politely ask them to stop.
They did.
If you're curious about my gardening comment, please note that many of the residents can and do beautify the soil right outside their doors.
One lady grows tulips under the stairs.
As long as the plants look pretty, the management doesn't mind.
Also, the team who manages this complex live /in/ Glenwood Gardens.
If something affects the residents, they're affected, too.
The biggest drawback to living here would have to be the age of the place.
The pipes broke from freezing this time last year and water was almost completely nonfunctional in the apartments for a week while the City of Raleigh enacted repairs.
On the worst day, the management was kind enough to let me take a shower in their offices.
The night the breakage happened, the lady manager went knocking on everyone's door to ask if they had water access...
Which impressed me, because it was VERY COLD and 10 o'clock at night.
I've also gotten a reply-and-repair on a Sunday afternoon from one of their maintenance men: also impressive.
All in all, the complex is a little like someone's Great-Aunt Dotty: aged, quaint, and liable to creak.
You'll get better service and understand the more unique aspects of the apartment complex if you take the time to get to know the management aside from the casual rent-check-in-the-mail-slot approach.
