Some Reviews Right/Some Wrong

Okay, I've read some of these reviews. Some are reflective of my experiences with GP, others are not. I’m not disputing what they say… just saying it’s not what I saw. I lived at GP with my partner from the day I moved to Raleigh until I moved out in November.
The Good: I always felt pretty safe. You feel like you live in the woods despite being a few minutes from everything. The lake is a nice amenity. Prices for apartments are decent (not great).
The Bad: I had the same experience mentioned here a couple of times about outrageous electricity bills (ESPECIALLY in the apartment with lofts). I lived through the plumbing upgrade. It sucked, but I survived. It’s over with now. Maintenance was slow to respond to requests (several of mine were never resolved in 1.5 years).
The Story: I moved into GP in Aug of 2002. We moved into one of the 1200sf apartments with the upstairs loft. As winter moved in, we immediately noticed our bill going higher and higher. It eventually topped out at $200/month (and this was with our power being knocked out for 6 whole days [ice storm – not GP’s fault]). With an equal payment plan, we were paying $160/month.
I lived in that apartment for two years. The electricity problems never subsided despite NUMEROUS calls to management. They refuse to acknowledge a problem. I’ve often considered suing them for my damages. At the end of our second lease, we decided to downsize to save money as we were preparing to buy a home.
We moved to a 700sf apartment in August of 2004. Shortly thereafter, they started the plumbing retrofit. That completely sucked and the water was undrinkable for several days (from the glue on the pipes).
Northland took over a few months later. They stopped responding to my service requests (I am guessing because they knew I was leaving and not renewing). The office staff is very young and not very professional. Fortunately, I got my deposit back with little fuss and without working my guts out to clean the grout.
Would I live there again' Probably not (I love being a homeowner). Do I regret staying there' No. But, I do regret not pursuing the power issue harder (perhaps with a small claims lawsuit). I still might.
A word of caution: Every year my rent increased. It didn't make me want to stay. They were completely unwilling to negotiate on the rent. uWDgQKY3Vkv8FKIsB8Ax

Not a place for people seeking escape from the city. Manager often misleads people.
