Nice place
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 10/22/2009
Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
Pros:
-Its really pretty and charming
-The windows are huge
-Within walking distance of NCSU, Glenwood, Chargrille, etc.
-The maintenance guy lives on the premises and has a personal interest in the property because his grandfather built it.
-The common areas (laundry and hallways) are kept very clean and you almost never have to wait for a washer or dryer.
-Utilities are super cheap--like $20-$40, but it is drafty in the winter.
Cons:
-While it is much quieter than a typical college apartment complex, there is some road noise and you can sometimes hear people above you.
-The apartment is very small.
-The fridge is small and not frost-free and there is not central heat/air.
-The bathroom fixtures are original--as in they are dated 1939.
-They are obsessive over the floors so you have to be careful not to scratch them
-Parking is close enough for carrying in groceries and stuff, but it is a huge pain to carry your couch for a block when you move in.
-The brick walkways are slippery when it rains
-The rental company is unprofessional. You can leave 20 messages with the usual secretary and never get a call back. There is a super nice secretary that works on Fridays sometimes and if you leave a message with her you'll get a call back that day. So, renting the place is a pain--but as long as your pay on time you can probably avoid talking to them and just talk to the maintenance guy about your concerns (you will see him all the time around the building).
Maybe pro/maybe con:
-This is not a social environment. You may not meet any of your neighbors. Everyone is friendly enough, but there is a reason people choose to live in studios.
