avoid this place like the plague

Unlike the previous poster, I have found the newest set of office managers pretty nice. Not outstanding, but nice enough.
But where do I start on this apartment'
Let's see. I started in a 1 bedroom apartment at this property. That apartment was o.k., except for the fact that the concrete was so badly crushed and broken up under the linoleum in the bathroom that every time you stepped into the room you could hear the crackle of fragments of concrete. Not so bad, but an obvious sign of the upkeep on these apartments.
The second apartment I moved into was a 2 bedroom. What a frickin nightmare. When I noticed the cat piss smell and stains on the carpet, and the fact that the tack strip was showing from where the carpet had been cut away (for what reason, I don't know) we asked for new carpet. The first management company promised me new carpet and the beginning of the next month. Before that could even happen the complex was purchased by a new management company. They refused to do anything. The next 3 management companies gave me the same answer. My appliances were manufactured in the 1970's. Seriously. What else' Old wiring has my cable outlet going out every 3 weeks or so. This has been verified by the cable company as in internal wiring problem. Nothing they can do about it. The paint is chipping all over the place. When they replaced the water pipes, I still have a discolored area from the repairs and the "tape" or whatever that they used to patch the drywall back up is peeling off. That's after we had to be without water in our apartment for 3 days, and having people CONSTANTLY in and out of the apartment. Now, I can understand that people will have to work inside the apartment for this kind of fix, what I can't understand is why I couldn't get a firm date that they would be there before they showed up, or why it took them 3 days to do a 1 day job. My in apartment air conditioning unit freezes from leaks every month. Getting a new filter takes 3 calls to maintenance. So much a hassle that I have requested extra filters to keep for myself so I don't have to rely on them. It only took 8 (count 'em, 8) trips by maintenance to believe that the outside AC unit needed to be replaced. My garbage disposal has broken on me 3 times and I have never received a new one. The screen on my patio door has NEVER stayed on the track. It will for maybe a day or so, but if you try to open it or a strong breeze comes through ...BAM. It's down again. I have seen someone clean out the breezeways twice in 2 years. We got a new roof on our building!! But they decided that 6am was a good time to start working on it. Yard care begins promptly at 7am in front of my building. You have to walk clear across the property to get to the one garbage bin that is pretty much always full. Every door in my apartment either sticks when it is shut, or does not latch properly. You can tell that they haven't been replaced since the building was constructed and over the years have warped. To open my front door you have to literally put a shoulder into it to get it open. I guess that is a good crime deterrent, but sucks when you are trying to carry something like groceries in. In the last month that we lived there these were the highlights:
-our AC went out twice
-our refridgerator died ruining $150 worth of newly purchased groceries...oh, and it took the 4 days to do anything about it. Last time I checked, that should be considered an emergency
-our dishwasher died and had to be replaced with a "newer" model. Notice the quotes around newer. This thing looked like it was manufactured in 1943
-our fuse box went out and had to be completely replaced. When it was replaced, they left a gigantic tear in the dry wall where they had to cut to access the area. they did nothing to try to patch it up, just left it out there as an eye sore.
All I can say is THANK GOD that I am out of that place. For only 30$ per month more I have an apartment that was built only 5 years ago, new appliances, new carpet, ... the works. We love it so far and know that there is no way that we will have even half of the problems we did at the Highlands at Olde Raleigh. Peace out Highlands.
And remember this if you are considering moving in there. Consider a cardboard box behind a dumpster somewhere. The conditions would be about the same and you would save a TON of money. Enjoy.
