Probably best Apartment in surrounding NCSU area
From: American_Raza@hotmail.comDate posted: 8/12/2005
Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2005
I lived a 1 bedroom for 1 year and 2 bedroom for 2 years between crest rd. and
Avent Ferry for 3 years. The 2 bedroom seemed to be very reasonable at $600/month.
The location is great with a short walk to Centennial campus, main campus, or the wolfline.
The surrounding communities seem to keep to themselves with Avery Close being occupied by
international students and the Schraeder properties occupied by lower income residents.
Theft seemed to only be an issue for unmoved vehicles in parking lot and owners that leave
doors unlocked or valuables visible in cars.
Condition: The apartments are a little old and my apartment on the ground floor definitely
had moisture issues. Insects were also an issue especially after large rains. I would
recommend not being on the ground floor for many reasons: 1) the apartments have no overhead
lights so more sunlight will enter apartment; 2) utility closet & deck is not available for
ground floor apartments, 3) and we had a hot water heater above send 5 gallons of water
into our apartment because the hot water heaters have no pans to prevent flooding.
However, maintenance is generally good and will respond in a timely manner.
Parking: I never had a problem parking my 2 vehicles very close to the apartment and
there is some lighting in the parking lot. I never witnessed towing even for a car
abandoned for 6 months in the parking lot.
Management: They are generally helpful and they leave residents alone because the
Ammons Pitman office is not located on the Ivy Commons grounds. They were willing to
extend our contract 3 extra months while I finished my degree during the summer and they
returned our security deposit quickly. It should be noted that Ammons Pittman only
manages the majority of apartments at Ivy Commons, some apartments are owned by individuals
that occupy the units or rent themselves, so you may often find units for rent cheaper than
offered by "Ivy Commons" by looking for rental signs in windows.
I would definitely live at Ivy Commons again, especially
