Upon moving in, my wife and I had a number of difficulties getting management to address our problems. Our bathrooms floors were filthy, and we had to get on our hands/knees and scrub them ourselves. We were eventually reimbursed for our efforts.
Also our kitchen cabinets were very worn and we had to beg to have them replaced. Then they didn't even replace them, only put a cream colored front on all of them, in front of a dark finished wood, not very pretty if you ask me.
The biggest problem we ran into was when I lost my job and we were forced to move. Lake Johnson Mews had no sympathy to this situation, and wanted an extraordinary amount of money to break the lease (Three months of rent 2 month notice), something when you don't have a job, is quite hard to come together with. None of this was stated in the lease, basically they pulled it out of their butt, and quoted some NC law that states they can do this. We never agreed to any of this in our lease, and when we signed we verbally agreed and it was written in our lease that we would only lose our security deposit.
Whats worse we were apparently suspected of running out on them without paying, so management would come over during the day and open our door without consent to check that we were still there.
