In my opinion the biggest problem with this place is the on site Management. It generally takes multiple trips to their office to have any problem resolved (whether that's a maintainence issue, noisy neighbor problem, etc.). They're very good at telling you exactly what you want to hear and then doing little or nothing to resolve the problem. I don't know if they are just very inexperienced in this field or just don't care about their job performance, but if you're one of the unlucky residents who has a really noisy neighbor you're probably going to have to deal with the misery---believe me, I've learned this the hard way. If someone's playing loud music or having a party, sure you can always call the police for a noise violation. BUT, if it's something else like a dog that always barks and never shuts up, even though the animal wouldn't be complying with the pet lease, they're not going to tell the people to get rid of the dog or evict them--so if you live near someone like that you'll have to deal with it until your lease ends and then move out because the management won't enforce their own policies.
I think the maintainence thing has gotten a little better since they hired some new people (they were really short handed a few months ago) but even then, the management staff never called me to tell me that the maintainence staff wasn't going to be able to get to my apartment that day (after I'd requested repairs or something) because they were so backed up--so I'd get home and think that no one had bothered to come by to do the job; so I totally understood that they were really short staffed and just couldn't get to my apartment that day because it was a minor issue, but no one called to notify me of that after they'd originally told me that the maintainence crew would be there that day. It's just the basic lack of courtesy that is really missing with this management staff.
As far as everything else with the apartment complex goes, it's safe from everyting that I can tell and the landscaping is nice, and the parking is fine and the community in general is usually quite.
BUT, considering the fact that many of the units are really old and you pay over $600 in rent for a 1 bedroom apartment and get extremely poor customer service from the management staff if you're unlucky enough to have a problem arise, this is not a place worth living in. I'll admit that I might have been uniquely unlucky in having 2 sets of really inconsiderate people living around me in the time that I've lived here---BUT that doesn't change the fact that the management has responded the same way both times by assuring me that the problems would be addressed and resolved and then allowing the bad situations to linger for months until the inconsiderate people finally moved out.
Bottom line, (the management issues aside) I don't think the monthly prices for these apartments are worth what you get (they're really old, the pool is not clean) so you could probably get a much nicer place for roughly the same amount of money or a little more. Though, if you do move here and happen to have an inconsiderate neighbor or possibly some ongoing maintainence issue, be prepared for an ongoing nightmare for the duration of your lease because, based on my experience, the problem will NOT be resolved by the staff.

I've got to say, even though you say to not move here, you don't make it sound that bad. As for the price, I've done a lot of shopping for apartments here in Raleigh, and just about all one bedroom apartments in the area are over $600. You're lucky if you pay under $650 for anything over 600 sq. ft. So the complex is clean, quiet, and safe for an average price in Raleigh. And they're within walking distance of Lake Johnson. So if all I had to deal with was the staff... yeah, not bad.

well, you're entitled to your opinion, but keep in mind that an apartment complex can be safe and affordable and still be a bad place to live. i happen to be someone who doesn't like to live around unreasonably noisy, disruptive people--and this apartment community made me sign a "good neighbor" commitment agreement when i moved in which required me to be respectful of the people around me and then the whole time i lived there, they did not enforce this agreement on the other tenants who lived around me. an affordable, safe apartment community doesn't amount to much if you're disrupted by noisy people everyday and are stuck have to deal with it for several more months until your lease runs out because your apartment community management won't enforce their own policies.
