I signed a 6 month lease. After my lease was over I went month to month. Which cost me $890 (market rate) plus $100 on top of market rate. Don't know what the $100 was for, I was told it was a charge since they didn't know when I was gonna move out, nevertheless they still needed a 30 day notice.
This place is very poorly insulated. Cracks in doorways of every room including main doorways leading out. Management was notified about problems and maintenance couldn't solve the problems. After awhile I just gave up on complaining.
Worst apartment complex ever experienced. Will be moving out after 7 months.

Apartment complexes only make money when the units are leased. They'd rather know they are going to have a resident occupying (and paying rent for) a unit for 6mos or 12 months than month-to-month. Even though you were required to give them 30 days notice, they had no way of knowing up front when that notice was going to be given. An empty unit means no income coming in from that unit - so they were charging you extra for the convenience of being permitted the luxury of a month-to-month situation. If you didn't want the higher rent and extra fees (which were probably spelled out in your original 6 month lease), then you should have signed a longer lease and saved yourself the headache.

We left after 4 years because we had enough. Best decision we ever made. Our Apt at Muirfield, the neighboorhood and the neighboors were great for the first year or so but everything went south over the next three years. The biggest problem was shoddy, substandard building materials, fixtures, appliances, plumbing - you name it. Just about anything that could break from normal use; did. There were several annoying problems like leaks, and outlet fixtures falling out of the walls, the hot water heater leaking and breaking and mold in the HVAC. But the biggest problem was the HVAC unit itself. During the hot Summer months the outdoor fan would be blowing but the unit in the apt would just whirl, click, snap and putt putt with no air being pumped and had to be reset at least twice a day. The fun part was waking up at 3 AM sweating with a room temp of 84 and the thermostat would be set on 70. Our energy bills would be over $200.00 a month for a 900 sq ft apt in the Summer for an a/c unit that did not work properly and only cooled the room as desired about 33% of the month.
Then there was an increase in crime in the neighboorhood. There were two break and enters in our building and several auto breakins in the parking lot. The pool always has several non-residents using it (one day a teacher brought her kindergarten students there for a field trip. I kid you not!!) The company who manages the complex was trying to market it as a condo-like community that was higher end which it isn't. By the time the company starting addressing the systemic maintenance issues it was too late. I really sense that the staff there on site was doing the best they could with what they had. I'm sure there was huge pressure on them not to spend money on anything and it showed. They were always polite and willing to help but they never provided or were provided with the resources, financial or otherwise to follow through. When we left there were abandoned cars left for several months, loud parties, litter on the grounds (the dumpster was always full) and tons of cut-through traffic from Falls of Neuse Rd.
