I?ve lived at Remington Place for 3 years now. The first year was great. The apartment was HUGE though pretty expensive too. The office staff is incredibly nice and the maintenance men respond to calls usually within a day, so I decided to sign another lease and stay a second year in a one-bedroom apartment.

But my second apartment wasn?t as great as the first one. Of course, it was still an enormous apartment, but I had all sorts of complaints. From the beginning, I had bugs (roaches, actually), the apartment wasn?t very clean when I moved in, and there were issues with the plumbing and the seals around the sliding glass doors. I called to have these things taken care of, and the maintenance men came out to help quickly, but the problems were never really resolved. I was put on a waiting list to have the problem around the sliding glass door fixed, but up to the day I moved out of that apartment, it was never fixed. After having my apartment sprayed 3 times for bugs, I gave up and stopped calling. No matter how hard I cleaned, I could never really clean all the grime left over in corners and in the kitchen from years of past tenants. During the warm months, millipedes had become a disgusting problem (and are still a problem during the warm months?I only see them periodically in the ?off season?). Starting at about 10pm, they begin to trickle out of the walls by the walkways. By about 3am, they are so thick wall-to-wall in the walkway, that you cannot walk through without stepping on several hundred. There are literally thousands of them--and they stink.

There was a severe mold problem from a broken pipe in our apartment when we moved in, and though they sprayed the mold and cleaned it out, the odd mildewey smell never completely went away. I asked to be moved to another apartment, but instead, the office sent a person in with a moisture detector who claimed that he fixed all the moisture leaks. This, too, I finally gave up and stopped complaining about, though my allergies told me that the mold was still there.

Quality of the apartment itself leaves a bit to be desired. The building itself seemed sturdy, but my apartment needed remodeling. I regularly stepped on the sharp nails that hold the carpet in place, the carpet regularly came up in the corners, and the irregularities in the walls have increased and cracked in numerous places, revealing the seams of most bits of sheetrock. The cabinets had been nasty and sticky since the day I moved in (I never could get rid of it), the doors to the laundry area should have been replaced years ago, and I wondered just how sturdy the balcony actually was, considering how many nails are coming up out of it.

The gutters finally got cleaned, so I am hoping that between that and the drains finally being cleaned the flooding outside of the apartments and on the walkways might finally be resolved. It hasn?t rained yet, but with spring coming, we will know soon. Outside of our apartment, the walkway used to flood every time it rained.

Another complaint is with the exercise equipment. There are several stationary bikes, a 2 treadmills, a Reebok cross-country type thing, and a weight machine. One of the bikes is broken, one of the treadmills is on its last leg, the Reebok thing is seriously in need of maintenance, and the weightlifting machine is nearly dangerous from lack of maintenance. The other treadmill is new, but for some reason, it is very difficult to walk or run on it. I don?t think it is actually broken, but maybe it just isn?t the best quality. One would think that with the office right next door, the weight room would be well maintained, but it is indeed severely neglected and seldom (if ever') cleaned. It doesn?t appear that it has been vacuumed since I moved in, and it smells that way too. Someone has taken notice recently and put a plug-in air freshener in the exercise room, but this just makes for overwhelming perfume smells mixed with dirty smells?enough to make a person working out want to gag.

Lighting in the parking lot is a problem. The management says that the lighting is subcontracted and that they have complained, but that they can not do anything else about it.

Also, I have noticed a major downturn in the friendliness of the management. The people who have been there for a while are still very nice, which was the one plus about the complex, but the newer people aren?t very approachable. I?m hoping that this will pass as they become more familiar with the people living in the complex.

One of the major plusses to living at Remington place is that at least one of the maintenance men live on-site. If you have an emergency in the middle of the night (say, the pipe under your sink decides to explode), he responds immediately to your call. That is a WONDERFUL thing.

I moved back into a 2 bedroom apartment fairly recently, and while this apartment isn?t nearly as bad as the 1 bedroom, there are still a lot of maintenance problems. I?m really hoping that they will be quickly resolved?it?s no fun to have to frequently turn in work orders for your apartment.

My suggestion is this?if you decide to live here, get one of the larger apartments, NOT the one-bedrooms, and if having access to a gym is important to you, get a gym membership elsewhere. Also, if you decide to buy furniture while you are living here, beware of the unusual shape of the entryway?regular size couches do not fit.

Also, expect to move every year, even if to other apartments in the same complex. You are not allowed to take advantage of current specials when you renew your lease, so it is better to move to a larger apartment with a good special than it is to renew your lease. Ironic, isn't it' x-2PE3sjUIIeetAHoKOk

I wrote this review about a year and a half ago... It seems that I was overly optimistic, as none of the issues were ever resolved. Remington Place has just changed management... again... Good luck if you decide to move in...
