Remington Place

I took over the end of someones lease to share a 2 bedroom apartment with someone I didn't know, and it's been a nightmare since I moved in. Not even a week after I had moved in I saw HUGE roaches in the kitchen (as big as my thumb). Not happy. We called for the exterminator 3 times, but he only came once. I was standing right there and all he did was walk around, spray a little spigot thing once and leave. I gave up calling after that. There are droppings, little specks and gross nasty business under the kitchen sink, I can't even imagine whats been living in this place. "Economy Exterminators" in the little brown cars just aren't cutting it.
The apartment is big, but it's really not worth it for what you pay. The kitchen is really small and pretty outdated. Carpets are faded and worn looking, and the windows barely open. My room has one window (the other bedroom has a slider to the pseudo deck which is covered in garbage, pine needles, mold and bugs - half enclosed and virtually unusable.) but it doesn't really do much. I also don't like how my bathroom sink is in the hallway on carpet, and the toilet and shower are in an enclosed space with tile. Also, the mirror over the sink seems really dangerous because it nearly falls down every time I try to clean it. If you look at one of these apartments PLEASE CHECK THE SINKS. Look under the bathroom sink - I've narrowly escaped many splinters and ruined a couple of shirts because the sink was not sealed well and it's only put together with crappy particle board that is falling apart. Also check the tub liner, look in all the cracks and crevices - mine is rotting and moldy no matter what I clean it with. The carpet around the door frame is barely attached at the bathroom.
Remington place needs to be overhauled. With a little work and a good chunk of money it could be a nice place, but I also have the roommate from hell so I am just not able to put in the effort. They recently repainted the buildings a hideous green and yellow color (would have been nice to have them hire a REAL exterminator instead but whatever.) The landscaping is nonexistant, they just dump pine needles every where all over the property, which end up all over the sidewalks and your house because you have to climb through them to get to your apartment from your car, depending on where you get to park. The ground around the building gets flooded every time it rains (thankfully not into the apartment, but the storms this season have been mild so far.) Parking is atrocious, and they didn't tell me up front that we had to pay to rent the washer and dryer which is an additional $40/mo on top of your rent, plus a water bill that is paid through the complex.
I'm glad I read the reviews on here about not getting any deals when you renew your lease, but I don't plan to renew anyway. I'd actually like to get as far away from this place as possible! A combination of a so-so apartment and the king slob of all time roommate (moldy dishes in the sink for weeks, trash left on the balcony and in the house, clothes and old wet laundry piled everywhere, rotten food in the fridge for ages, spoiled groceries in bags on the kitchen floor for days and days, the extreme smell of garbage, cat urine and feces wafts through the house because she can't seem to clean the cat box EVER or take out any trash - no wonder there's bugs.) has me wanting to run screaming from this place, never to return.
Oh yeah, and the previous tenant had left a HUGE stain on the rug in my room, along with big 1cm holes in the walls (god knows what she hung up there). I asked the apartment people to come in and look at it so they don't try to hang me for a security deposit (they did look, no pictures though) so wish me luck! My lease is almost up and I can't wait.
Pluses: The lady in the office is really nice (but I feel bad that she's had to put up with so much from my terrible roommate), the neighbors are pretty nice and not loud at all and the air conditioning works fine. Lots of dogs, nice to be close to Lake Johnson's trails. If you are OK with alot of big gnarly insects, sloppy maintenance, limited extermination and a kind of pricey rent bill then go for it. Just make sure you look VERY VERY VERY CLOSELY at the ENTIRE apartment before moving in.

Yes, it's old, but the roaches and other nastiness could easily be from your slob of a roommate. If he leaves moldy dishes, wet laundry, rotten food, and spoiled groceries around, it's not too hard to think that she is the cause of your bug problem. the majority of your complaints can easily be attributed to your roommate, not Remington Place. -previous tenant
