Okay Budget Complex

I've noticed a few negative reviews of Sailboat Bay lately; some of these reviews seem a bit harsh, but honestly, some of the points are valid points that I've been thinking about myself as I prepare to move out of my current apartment here (I'm leaving the area).
I hope to provide a balanced review instead of an "everything's great, OMG!" or "this place is the ghetto!!" type review.
Let me start with the good stuff...
The price is great, considering the area.
You're minutes away from three major grocery stores, Glenwood is maybe 8-10 min's away, the Lake Lynn trail is right behind the complex, and the complex is very quiet.
This location is outside the beltine but it's close enough to the beltine that you're not too far from downtown.
This is North Raleigh, but it's not "North Raleigh" as in Capital Blvd./Wake Forest "North Raleigh." All in all, a good place if you're living on a budget; if you re a grad student or a teacher, this is a nice little fit.
Now, as for the bad stuff...
I'm sorry, but the plumbing/ac here is a mess.
Hopefully this issue is addressed in the remodeled units.
Luckily, my apt has never flooded; however, my water heater shorts 2-3 times a year, and my ac has to be fixed or adjusted at least three times per year.
As long as I've lived here, it has seemed like the complex is okay with "maintaining" crappy plumbing and ac; again, though, perhaps this issue will be addressed during the remodeling phase.
I've rented other budget apartments before, and I don't have unrealistic expectations for these types of places, but I think that my expectations for adequate plumbing and ac aren t unreasonable, and I shouldn't have to have this issue fixed 3-4 times a year.
Also, it does seem like the office staff has gotten a little testier over the last year or so; I don't think it's too bad, but at the same time, I don't feel too comfortable calling the office any more...they seem somewhat short these days.
Again, it's not over the top rude or anything like that, more like cold and short; the vibe was friendlier when Mary was working in the office (she's since left).
Okay, finally--and maybe this is just my particular place--the lighting inside sucks.
There is no light at all in my bedroom.
I think that's a first.
Seriously, no light in the bedroom' The only light in my entire apartment is in the dining area.
No light in the living room area.
Weird.
All in all, I'd recommend Sailboat Bay, but it sill has some issues.
Still, for the price, area, and convenience, it's not a bad place if you're on a budget.
If I wasn t moving out of the area, I d renew my lease.

I have to respond to one thing that a lot of people have been commenting on.... the office staff.
From my understanding there is only two people working in the office. 2 people, 6 days a week. Quite honestly if this is true (as it seems to be in the two months I have been at SB) I'd be a bit testy too!
I am not sure of the rationale behind SB and having only 2 people work the office and a 2-person maintenance crew (other than SB saving money of course) but I feel kinda bad for the employees of SB for that very reason.
